I just got some labs back, a recheck. My cholesterol is up a tad even from the first check in January. And this round said my liver enzymes were slightly elevated. I don't have the labs in front of me yet. They are mailing them out. This was told to me via phone.

I don't really exercise, save trying to walk a few times a week. I know that needs to change. I have been eating a lot of oats: oatmeal or Cheerios for breakfast most days.

I snack on natural almonds a few times a week.

Supplement-wise: I am about 50% on remembering but I have Cal/Mag/Zinc, Multi-womens, and Flax oil capsules.

I usually eat a fair amount of meat, but all really lean cuts of red meat and white meat chicken only. Fish, not as often since it doesn't sit well. But I'll try to do salmon 1 time a week.

Any ideas for what else I can/should be doing for this?

As for your liver, a number of things will elevate that.

If you had any alcohol before hand, medication, i.e tylenol or acetemetophin. If it's just slightly I wouldn't be too worried., maybe repeat when you have your cholesterol checked.

My .02 for that!

I get mine done every other month.

Also important to get a good balance of healthy fats/omega 3s. Fish oil can raise liver enzymes in some people. My dr. had my hubby change from fish oil to flax seed oil and his came back down.

Liver enzymes can shoot way up or down in a very short period. My husband has been denied health ins. twice because of elevated liver enzymes. Both times he went to his regular doc to have them tested and they were fine. We appealed and got him insured no problem. We realized that the nurse would always take his bloodwork first thing Monday morning before he'd leave for work (like at 7am), and Sunday night being date night, any alcohol he'd ingested the night before would still be wandering around unmetabolized in his liver. I'd just be sure to avoid all alcohol and Ibuprofen (or other NSAID anti-inflamatories) for at least 3 days before your blood draw to get an accurate picture.

So ibuprofen can elevate them also? I knew about Tylenol, but didn't know if Advil did as well. I had been taking some regularly for a few weeks before that due to a jaw issue. I wonder if that did it.

Forgot about the NSAID's! Those will definitely do it.

It looks like you could be taking too many supplements. If you are eating oatmeal and Cheerios, and doubling your vit intake beyond a daily multi-vit, you can elevate liver enzymes. Especially with magnesium, e, and other b vits (there are others as well).

If you pee a color that is pale or bright green - it's often too much of a B vit. Bright green is a over dose and will need to work out of your system.

Check on vitamins with your MD. If they are not in the know, begin research and work with a certified nutritionist to find the balance. You'll norm out soon.

Okay, after I take my multi, my pee is greenish! (sorry TMI). I thought it was the coloring in it. Thanks! I will definitely research that for sure.

I look at a lot of pee (its not a hobby, I'm an RN) and let me say one thing....anything other than yellow is not optimal. Also, drink enough water. Enough that your urine is pale, clear yellow. However, know that some foods can discolor your urine....for example, eat a big plate of beets and your urine will turn reddish.

I try to drink a fair amount of water. I do one glass of apple juice with a cup of coffee for breakfast. Then it is water for the rest of the day. That multi-vitamin I have been taking is pretty potent with % RDA. I think I need to stop that one and just stick with the Calcium pills along with the flax oil. I don't think those would be bad. But, I have an appt next with with DR for another issue and I will discuss this with her as well.

I really just thought that the coating of the vitamin had a food coloring that caused that (similar in color). Gah! How stupid! I should have known better. That might be part of the issue right there.

Thanks!
