My almost 5 yr old is finishing up Headsprout and is reading, I guess, at about a solid mid first grade level. She probably could test up to early second, but that would be pushing it.
I plan on moving into the I See Sam readers and/ or Promethean Trust's Dancing Bears. Have pondered seeing if she likes Explode the Code, but not sure if she will.
However, I do like having a solidly educational computer program around for her to have a change of pace. And I'm looking for one that will last awhile, both for her and her sister, that she can continue to work with for awhile. I've looked at both of these programs: Sound Reading Solutions Primary software and Lexia Primary Reading. They both look good. Does anyone have experience with either one?
