They really aren't the same thing at all. Growing with Grammar is a grammar program. It doesn't contain any writing instruction. It teaches grammar in the traditional workbook way. There is a lesson on a grammar concept and then sentences to work with related to the lesson. There is review as well.
Writing Tales is a writing program that incorporated grammar. Each lesson has a "model" that is the basis of the lesson. Then the lesson uses that model to teach grammar concepts and writing. The student will imitate the model by writing it himself in his own words. This gives the student practice in story organization, vocabulary etc. The analysis the student does of the model helps them to understand why it was written the way it was, why the story was organized that way and why the writer chose the words he chose. Then when the student imitates the model he will practice these skills.
I'm not great at explaining how WT works. I hope this helps.
