I am participating in our community yardsale for the first time this year. Any experts out there with some helpful hints? How to price? How to involve the kids? What else should I be thinking of?

Keep it simple. Put all clothes together and put up a sign that each item is 25 or 50 cents. Dresses are a buck. Coats are $2 (or whatever). Only put actual prices on stuff worth more than a buck. Keep everything 25/50/75 or even dollar amounts - do not mess with dimes or nickels. Have tons of change in a fanny pack. Let the kids have a cooler full of the cheapest sodas or juice drinks you can find, chilled, to sell for a buck a can. They will make some money!!!
put any large items out in front, to lure folks in.

The biggest thing is remember it is a yard sale and not to price to high. If you want the stuff to move quickly, price low and you are more likely to move it. Also be willing to deal. As for the kids, have them help with give in change and such. Also maybe they could make their own lemonade and cookie stand to sell stuff right along with you.

Make sure everything has a clear asking price. When I go to a yard sale, if there aren't clear prices I just don't bother. Be prepared to negotiate.

If your goal is to get a good price on something, don't sell it at a yard sale. Sell it on Craigslist, or through the classifieds. Yard sales are cheap cheap cheap (which is why I go to them).
