Could someone who is familiar with Aleks math please explain how it works? Do you order a certain level or do you have access to all of the levels? How do you know which level to start at? Do they do all of the work on the computer or do they use pencil and paper? How long does it usually take to complete a lesson?

Your child will take a placement test to determine what he already knows, and what he needs to learn. If he is in fifth grade, and completes all of the fifth grade standards, he will continue on to the next grade level. We use scratch paper, as the computer only has a place for the answer. There aren't lessons to be completed. Each child has a pie chart, and they can choose to work in certain areas (geometry, fractions, etc.). We set a timer for 30 minutes of work--however many problems she can do in that amount of time.

We started in September, and she is almost finished with fifth grade. I really like the program because after you learn something, you don't have to constantly go over it, like you do with Saxon. There are periodic assessments, and any areas that need work are added back to the pie.

I don't know the link, but I think if you search around you'll find that you can try ALEKS free for a month.
