Would anyone mind sharing your thoughts on the differences in these two and if you felt one was better than the other? And what makes the one better than the other?

Thanks,
Erica

The BIG difference is the textbook format (R&S) vs. a workbook format (GWG). R&S also include writing lessons whereas GWG only has a few. You would need a separate writing program if you used GWG. Our experience has been this: My ds9 hated R&S b/c he didn't prefer the textbook (copy your sentenes on a separate sheet of paper) and I just didn't have the time to do everything orally. I bought GWG and now he LOVES grammar and is understanding it to boot. My dd11 doesn't mind the text format and so she doesn't mind R&S. Neither does my ds8 who does some R&S2 and some FLL...depends on my mood! We don't do grammar very formally anyway. Next year I'm starting him on R&S 3 (b/c I already have it) and we'll see how he does. You really can't go wrong w/ either.

I did know one was workbook, the other textbook. I guess what I am wanting to know is how do they compare academically.
Thanks,
Erica

I had a chance to see GWG at a conference last year. I forget which level of GWG I was comparing to R&S3 but I could see no difference in academic rigour. It looked excellent.
I went with R&S because it does contain references to God and Jesus and that appealed to me. GWG is totally secular. To me, that was the only difference.

I believe there are samples of GWG you can view on-line. Try googling.

Thanks. We were choosing GWG for the same reason as you chose R&S. We were wanting secular. I have looked at the samples a lot from both and just wanted to see how up to par GWG was to R&S because I liked how rigorous R&S looked. It's just so hard to tell by the few samples alone.

Thanks again.

I compared the online table of contents of both programs and found, with the exception of the writing lessons, that they are virtually identical. I am like you, we wanted secular and a workbook. I like how GWG is very direct in its explanations of concepts. It is working well here. We plan to use all the levels as my guys need them. As someone else said, you will need a separate writing program. This is the only drawback, if one could even call it that, as I see it.
