I am interested to know thoughts on Sonlight. Has anyone switched to Sonlight from Calvert? I know Calvert is secular and Sonlight is not. I'd appreciate any commentary on either curriculum.

Thanks!

have used levels Pre-K through 2nd with ATS. This year we switched to Sonlight and what a breathe of fresh air it has been!

I was juggling two complete levels of Calvert and having to do everything in each due to using the ATS services.

I use the Sonlight readers, read alouds, and History/Geography. Each child has their individual levels of skills subjects which we do in the morning. Then after lunch we do content subjects together! We are having a great year.

I did, many years ago, from year one and two of Calvert with ATS to Core 3 of Sonlight.

It was a good move. And we used Sonlight secularly (that was before there were tons and tons of discussion questions and guided thinking). Our religious teaching was accomplished with private devotional stuff, Awana, and church. I had major issues with Bible being a school "subject." So it wasn't much different in that regard.

Calvert is great, but Sonlight was a very good change for us. (I have to say that I'm very glad I did Calvert first, though. It made me realize how much was "enough" in the day, whereas with Sonlight, it's easy to *majorly* overdo the workload if you're the type (like me) who feels that you must check off all the boxes. My two years with Calvert helped me use Sonlight more effectively.)
