I know I should post this on the curric board, but more people are viewing here. Please tell me what you're using for grammar with your kids this year. Especially if you happen to have a 6th, 8th, or 10th grader. (I'm using FLL with my 3rd grader).
I need to place an order like now, so if you could take a minute to reply I'd be very grateful! Thanks!

I'm using Shurley Grammar and LLLATL with my 6th grader.

Rod and Staff. Difficult but worth it. Have used it for 6th grade, 4th, 3rd, and currently 5th. I like it and so does SWB I believe. Very much full of Christian content, but hey, I say even if you don't agree/believe the material is still learned and you have a great jumping off point to discuss your own beliefs. HTH

ETA: Also if you use I think it is Milestone Ministry they ship pretty quick.

:iagree: I second everything Pam said. I love R & S English. My dd is in 9th grade but is finishing up the 7th grade book because we started it last year. I love it so much I bought all the levels from 2-8 already. It only goes to grade 10. If you have not used it before, you may need to look in TWTM for SWB's recommendation for which level to choose. (It really depends on what you have done before.)

6th: An ancient Voyages in English, plus whatever comes along in CW Homer (with source material to fit our history blocks)

11th: Watching IEW's TWSS and writing essays for Government (not really grammar but editing is a learning opportunity)

There was a grammar mentioned on the high school board.....Ill try to find it in a second....otherwise, Rod and Staff...8th grader. My daughter, in 10th, used Jensen's. I can't recommend it highly enough. She's capable and confident with her grammar now.

ETA: Here is the link for one we're considering if we go back to traditional homeschooling: http://www.drwhimbey.com/index.html

still IS a very good grammar program, although the writing component isn't that great in the elementary years.

If I were to do it over, I'd use R&S, hands-down, all the way through. The grammar is excellent, the writing component is strong, it teaches outlining, diagraming, etc. Essentially, you'll get a solid foundation with R&S without heavy supplementation.

We continued with Abeka because dd's were used to it.

Winston Grammar. Colourful cards, simple approach and focused on mastery. Works well for us.

My kids hated Rod & Staff, which I switched to from G.U.M. after 3rd grade. We also tried Sonlight LA for awhile, but I strongly disliked it.

This year, I bought A Beka Grammar & Composition. We will use A Beka again next year. The boys don't like any grammar book, but they like A Beka a whole lot more than R & S. I do not hear constant complaints, anyway.

With my dd 11, Galore Park's So You Really Want to Learn English 2. It's going great so far! I also own Our Mother Tongue by Nancy Wilson, and I plan to use this after my dd completes the next GP English.

6th grader - Growing with Grammar 6. It's going great so far. We tried R&S and A Beka before, but this is the best fit for us. It has a workbook to write in, like A Beka, which we much prefer. However, it's easier to find the instruction for each topiic, since all instruction is in a separate text which can be left open, if needed, while doing the workbook. No more flipping pages trying to find the rules, then back to do the assignment. There aren't as many exercises as with R&S or A Beka, either, which is a huge plus for us. Still, it does seem to cover the same material. There is no writing instruction, though, or reference material usage exercises, so if you want that, R&S or A Beka would be a better choice. The R&S writing instruction is much better than A Beka's, IMHO.

We get a lot of grammar through Latin and Classical Writing. My 9th grader won't be using a grammar program this year, but I plan to use The Magic Lens (http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/Magic+Lens+I+Student+Book/037768/1220877949-1099228) with my 5th and 7th graders.

My 10-year-old son is doing Galore Park's Latin Prep 2, which includes what I consider pretty light grammar instruction. We're also trying the Classical Writing approach this year and discussing grammar as a part of his writing instruction.

My background is in this area (degree in English and 10 years as an editor/tech writer), so the most important grammar resource in our curriculum is me.

Our Mother Tongue by Nancy Wilson followed up by Mary Daly's Diagramming. Inexpensive and you can teach all of the kids together and keep it around for your younger ones.
