Why are colleges sending emails etc to a sophmore?

How did he get on their radar? Is it because he took the PSAT (as a practice run). Does the College Board send out names to colleges? If so - why are they asking after a kid who won't apply for two years? Just curious.

I think it's because of the PSAT. My son is receiving a bunch of stuff, too, and it just started. Since he hasn't registered anywhere other than the College Board site, that must be it.

Yeah, it's the PSAT. They had some opportunity to tell whether of not they were interested in recieving information. My dd commented the other day that maybe she should have told them she didn't want any emails.

In someways it is a pain, but it can alert you in advance to some schools that you might not have thought of. You'll get even more next year....and junk mail too. :rolleyes:

Yep that is what did it. When my son took the psat he was only in seventh or eighth and by ninth grade we were getting college stuff. Way to freak out a mother who is terrified of losing her first born! Back then he was kind of weirded out by it, too.
