Has anyone ever done a grow-a-frog kit? What did you think? After they are grown, are they high-maintenace? I hear they live a looong time.

Thank you, Amy

both came with the kit and one died - not sure why. So we called the company and they sent us one that was a little bigger. The one they sent grew to be huge - about 3" long, while the other one has remained smaller. We got them about 1 year ago and they are going strong. Not a lot of work - we clean the tank once a week (we had to get a different one than what they came with because it got to be so large) and feed 1x/day. My kids were old enough to take care of them by themselves, so no work for me.

I have to admit we've had thoughts of turning them loose in a puddle somewhere - there just isn't much to do with them other than look. We have a lot of pets (dog, cats, rats, hamsters, horses, cows, etc.) and the frog is the least exciting by far. If we lived in suburbia I would not regret the purchase or trouble, but since we don't - we could have done without. With all that said, it is a neat experience to watch them grow.

We have 2 - one raised from a tadpole and one the "froglet friend" that came with the Stage 2 set. We call them Tommy and Rozy. They're really low maintenance, and I was surprised at how fat Tommy got! I have some older pics in my blog - http://2alyn.blogspot.com/2008/06/meet-tommy-and-rosie.html

now this is making me want to do it here.

I've always been reluctant as I have plenty on my plate.

We managed to kill ours. I'm not sure if we're going to try again. I'd kind of like to but we have just too much stuff going on including a house renovation and no place to put the tank.

We have done this as well. Sadly, ours did not survive. The kids lost interest after awhile as they grow really slow(at least ours did).

We have a tadpole, we got him back in March. He was supposed to begin metamorphosing within 6 weeks. He is still a tadpole. No legs, no where.

I have *no idea* why. Maybe he needs some environmental cues he is not getting.

We had two tadpoles that were tadpoles for nearly 2 years before they died as tadpoles. No joke. I always thought it was just something weird in our house. They did get much bigger, just never became frogs. Maybe there was not enough room for them, or something simple like that. But then why would they have gotten so much larger...?

Hm. Nature. Fun:tongue_smilie:
