My dds want to start German next school year. We already study Latin and Spanish (elder will complete Spanish II, younger will complete Spanish I this year).

The German would be instead of Spanish due to the graduate school aspirations of my eldest although my youngest is keen to switch too. They'll be in 11th and 9th grades respectively.

I'd love some advice on what to use for those who have been there, thanks for any input.

I can't say enough good things about this program! We are in year three and it has been excellent. THey accommodate homeschoolers, it has a weekly speaking session with a native speaker, it is self-paced and has won tons of awards from TEACHERS of German. Well worth checking out!

In fact, I wish I could get my girls to take German, but they think it is too "brute!" (It's really not!)

If they're still in print (although I can't remember the publisher) you might check out "Deutsch Heute" which was the text we used in college.

I definitely have to second the German online from Oklahoma State! My daughter is taking German I this year and loving it! She is learning ( AND RETAINING) so much information. It is definitely worth every penny!

Sounds and looks very interesting.

How fast do the lessons progress? I am concerned that the pace (at least for German I) may be very slow for the girls (my eldest in particular) since they already know how learn a new language and are familiar with such concepts as inflectioned endings etc.

Would you recommend German I in a semester? The site indicated that they could support block scheduling.

17yo son is taking German 2. He has learned a lot and really enjoys it. They have been very accommodating when we needed extra time because of travel and such. Ruth in NC

You can easily do 1-2 lessons a day or more if so inclined. We have found that it takes a little over a semester for us but we break for a week every six weeks. It's completely self-paced. If you have other specific questions I encourage you to call the number at the website and ask for Sabine Lewis. She is superb!!

Thanks.

It is good to hear that it can be done at your own rate. That would really fit our situation. I've emailed for details and will call if necessary.
