Am I the only one who finds speeches boring?

I don't like watching speeches. Dh always wants to watch the State of the Union and other important speeches and I lose interest quickly. I tried to watch Obama and kept falling asleep (the 3 week old baby had something to do with that - I am not saying he was that boring! :D)

I watched McCain for a while last night and just got kind of bored and got back on the computer.

The only speech I can recall actually paying attention to the whole thing was Palin's. I do like her, but even when I like somebody I have trouble listening to a long speech. So I don't know if that says that Palin is a good speaker or what.

So, anyone else just not like speeches in general? part of it for me is knowing that they didn't write it themselves. I hate that.

I view it more like watching a tennis match. The ball bounces from one court to the other. Last week it was in Obama's court. This week's it's in McCain's court. Next week remains to be seen. I suppose it will boil down to what dirt is drudged up by the media.
If you look at politics as a sporting event, it's oddly entertaining. Shame it has to be at our country's expense. But humorous, nonetheless.

I do prefer the debates to speeches, but I watch both.

I LOVE a good speech, but I can't stand listen to all of the in-between clapping and cheering. Makes.me.crazy. I wish that they could get their big intro-cheer and then turn to the audience and say, "Listen, folks. You're gonna just LOVE what I'm about to say. But could you hold all of your applause to the end? Thanks so much!" Not gonna happen, I expect. So I'll just read transcripts. :001_smile:
