worth it?

ElizabethTN posted earlier this week and several of you said it was worth it.

I'm considering going tomorrow because I've been having pain in my knees and a bit in my ankles since I've started running.

But I don't think I've ever paid $100 for shoes . Let alone sneakers. If I'm using their services, I will at least buy my first pair there.

Will it really be worth it? Do you think it'll make the pain go away?

From what I understand yes, if you have knee problems. I have been very lucky and found a new balance style that really works well for me an I usually find them at Kohls for under $50 however I run daily and replace them every 3-4 months. I wonder if I got fitted properly if it would be worth the money to get some that lasted longer.

Yes, it's worth it.

I have a good friend from Kenya who is a professional runner. He is the one who told me to do this a few years ago. It has truly made a huge difference. If I remember correctly, they were just shy of $80. That was about 5 years ago, and I'm still wearing them, though I really need to get a new pair now.

So yes, I say try it.

I have issues in my foot so I always go to a running store. Some things in life are worth the extra money!

I worked in a running store long ago and learned a lot about shoes and why $60 shoes and $100 shoes are way different. So yes, pay the money for good shoes to exercise in. It's worth it!

For me it was absolutely worth it. If I don't run with the right sneakers for me, and if I don't replace them often enough (~every 500 miles), my knees will hurt. This doesn't mean that my knees never hurt with the right shoes, but if I am careful I am pain free. For me, that means not increasing my mileage too quickly, and not running back to back long runs (8+ miles). It is more expensive, but I rationalize it by telling myself it's cheaper than new knees .

My husband is a serious runnner. For him to consider a run "long" it has to be more than 13 miles. He insists that good running shoes are a must. He loves the Brooks running shoes but they are too tight in the instep for me so I wear the Mizunos. Err..not that I'm a runner but I'm learning.

My dh has to have nice shoes or he is in constant pain. It is worth the money if you live with various situations. I guess you are the one who has to decide if it is worth it. Do you want to feel better enough to pay the $100? :) We paid more than that for his shoes and it was worth it to us.

Warmly,
Kate

Yes, my dh has been a serious runner until recently (injuries have kept him from running as much as usual.) He has run marathons and when he's training he keeps close tabs on the number of miles he's put on a pair of running shoes, and gets new ones at regular intervals. He also has plantar fasciitis, and has found that going to a specialty store has made all the difference. His running shoes cost about $100/pair, but they are worth it to him.

The gate analysis was worth its weight in gold. I may actually try to find my shoes mail order, but I am sure I will be getting other things at this store since the staff is SOOOO helpful.

As someone who had corrective foot surgery very young, I always try to wear better shoes. I just walk and buy the more expensive shoes, I care that much! I am very fortunate to have one of these stores in my area and absolutely love them! It is called Roadrunner Sports (http://www.roadrunnersports.com/). If I were a runner, for sure I would get the quality shoes that are fitted for me.

Not even one dissenter :D.

Thanks. Between all these responses and the encouragement of dh, I will go.

My dh does. He is on his feet a lot and well fitted shoes help. I just ordered him a pair for Valentines Day to be shipped 250 miles. Because they keep records and we don't live near any stores that sell good shoes, it makes it easy for me to do that and surprise him. My dad swears by these stores.

In my younger days I used to teach areobics. I, myself, found that shoes made a huge difference. When women would complain of shin splints or any kind of foot and leg problems, my 1st question was always "How much did you spend on your shoes?" Usually it was minimal and I always recommended well fitted, expensive shoes and 100% of the time the women would return and say it worked. No more problemas. So that puts me in the camp of Yes, these stores are worth it.
