Alana in Canada

Of course, it is minus 24 (C) (-11F) and the snow itself won't dissappear for another five or six weeks, BUT!
I have tried to figure out what sort of bird this is. We're in central Alberta. It shows up about now every year and only stays a few weeks and then it travels on. It looks like it has a crest like the shape of a cardinal and it's grey--but with a beautiful yellow belly (which seems to deepen as the weather gets warmer.) PS. There are no cardinals out west.
Would anyone happen to know what it is?
It travels in huge flocks, though there's only one on our tree today. (Poor bird, probably wondering why he bothered to be early!)
