Are those blue gel ant farms re-usable?

I am about to order ants for dd's. But....once they all die off - can we get new gel and start off? or will new ants use the old tunnels?

Anybody know?

We added new ants as they died off, but eventually, the gel all turned yucky brown and I pitched the entire thing. It was still a cool project.

I just googled it--it appears that the blue gel is agar, with an anti-fungal added in. And you can't get just the gel... :mad:

How long did either of your ants last? Good grief - seems like this is going to be an expensive little habitat!!
