I know that there's been a lot of discussion in the past about History of US, but I can't find in the 20+odd old posts in the archives the info I need.

So here's the question:
Has anyone made any chapter by chapter worksheets, map work, chart work, etc. that my 7 and 9th graders can do independently as they read the chapters on there own?

My thought was that they'd work Mon-Thurs on their own and then we could get together on Friday to review and discuss.

I bought the Hewitt's syllabus/tests/project list packet, but I feel my kids need more as they read (besides just taking notes.):tongue_smilie:

So do I do I need to bite the bullet and make chapter sheets and comb the internet for maps to color in and time lines to complete, etc or :lol:does some nice parent already did this or know of a resource that has done it?

Help!

Okay.....could anyone tell me how they used History of US texts?

I used them with the matching set of Teaching Guides published by Oxford University Press. Using the Teaching Guides allowed me to use History of US even in high school with my learning challenged dd.

You might be interested in the sites publishers make available. Here's one for the OUT OF MANY US History book. Clicking through the items in the left-hand column for each chapters reveals online and graded quizzes, map work and much, much more.

Here is a link to the Oxford University Press website.
They have a page of teacher helps for using this series.

I'll keep searching to see if I can find some better resources with maps etc. as my kids are reading this series this year too.:001_smile:

Myra,

Sonlight core 100 has a question booklet for History of the US. The booklet can be purchased separate from the core, but the answers can only be gotten by buying the Instructors Guide.

It probably is too must cost, but I will post the links just in case.

Core 100 IG (http://www.sonlight.com/100-01.html)

Student Questions for History of the US
(http://www.sonlight.com/120-02H.html)

Note that if you buy the IG you do get ONE set of Student Questions. I haven't checked lately but SL used to allow copying for additional family members. You might want to check to make sure that is still true.

Thanks for the info.

I guess I've got my work ahead of me. I always panic when I start a new series so I'll take a deep breath and tackle this a week at a time!

I'd second the recommendation for the companion teaching guides. They were very helpful for my co-op class. I found mine on ebay for around $5 each, and I think the older editions would work just fine too.
