We have 5 trees down and TONS of mess (looks like a hurricane went through here!!) but we are all safe and sound! We may be without power for a while, but we've got generators to keep us afloat. We have lost water now, so I guess we'll be fairly stinky, but we have bottled water for drinking (glad most of us took cold baths today!!)
Anyway, I don't know how much I'll be on the net - obviously my satellite is sporadic with the still rainy conditions, but I just wanted you guys to know we were okay and I pray for all the others that were in the path!

Glad to hear you're safe! Been thinking about the Gulf Coast WTM'ers!
Funny snippit: I heard a woman from NOLA interviewed on NPR today; she said that though they had one heck of a mess in their yard and basement, "The damage isn't anything that a trip to Wal-Mart wouldn't fix!" I thought it was funny--- and a relief to hear, since those heartbreaking reports of the Katrina aftermath are still so fresh in my mind.

I am glad you all are okay. After Frances, I mastered washing my hair and body with only 1/2 gallon of water. I hope the water comes back on soon.

Glad you are both fine! Gustav hung out at our house for most of the day - I woke up around 3am from some wind, but it wasn't bad at all. Our friends from Lafayette that are staying with us will probably go home tomorrow. Their house is fine, just part of their fence down and enough debris in their yard to keep the 6 of them busy for a few hours. Apparently they have power at their house even!

We live in a hurricane area, so I feel for you. It sure sounds like you're a better trooper than I am about hurricane damage. A thankful spirit, I suppose. I hope your power and water come back soon and that things get back to normal quickly. It already sounds as if you are remembering what's most important. :)

We lost water for a while, but it's back. Dh was able to get my Mom's little house, which is on our property totally running off generator (even the central air) so we are pretty comfy now. We even had some warm baths last night. :001_smile:
He was able to drive about an hour yesterday with a neighbor and get plenty of gas for the generators. They are expecting us to be at least a week without power, possibly longer. We do have some damage but not much. It looks like some roof damage, and damage to our barn from falling trees/limbs. I don't think it's anything too major and I am very grateful!
My sister, OTOH, is in one of the hardest hit areas. They didn't stay home during the storm, but she works for State Farm near her house so they have had to return. They are expected to be without power for 4-6 weeks. The problem with this is that they can't get gas so a generator is pretty much out of the question as well. She is hoping her son's house gets power back within a few days and they can stay with him at night. Of course, that is a good 40 minute drive for her each way to work and back so gas will still be an issue.
This area is just not operational. It is so strange for everything to be closed! We don't have stores or anything open in our vicinity, only one station selling gas (and you wouldn't want to get in the line - you'd run out of gas waiting!!), and there are mandatory curfews in our area from 6p-6a. It's really insane!
Anyway, we're safe and that matters most! I would appreciate some prayers for my sister and people in her area. She is very afraid because of the looting that has gone on. They are having to sleep with their windows open for air circulation and it makes her really nervous because of all that is happening around them.
Thanks for your prayers!!

Glad you escaped the worst of it, but I hope things get better for you and your sister soon.
