I went to pick dd up from her father's and she is covered in hives from top to bottom. The only thing we can think of that she could be reacting to is either the food dye in the skittles or maybe corn syrup. Her face is swollen but she is breathing fine and swallowing fine. We are looking at a two hour wait to be seen. *sigh* If it isn't one thing, it's another.

So sorry! Hope she feels better soon. She'll probably be fine by the time they actually get around to seeing you. :o0 Jacuqi

I can never figure out when or to what my dd is going to hive out. I keep antihistamines around me.
Is there a shudder smiley out there? :grouphug:

I hope you've been seen by now and are home. My son gets horrible hives, like you're describing on your daughter. We finally connected them to certain food dyes. I hope you can figure out the cause.

They got us in within an hour at urgent care, which is pretty good, considering they were the only one open in town yesterday. The doctor looked her over and then called in the other doctor, and he looked her over. They were very concerned because the hives started to look like little bruises or birthmarks, all over. They said these were not just common hives and they referred us on to the ER. Thankfully, since they called the ER ahead of our arrival, we had no wait there and were taken right in (estimated wait was 3 hours had we just walked in on our own).
The ER doc examined dd, had blood drawn, palpated her swollen neck and her tummy, then we sat and waited until the blood results came back. The doc said she looked for other rash pictures to try to determine what it could be, but her dx was basically an atypical allergic reaction. She gave dd a megashot of steroids and benedryl and sent us home. We left at 11 pm. OH,and the blood work was normal, thankfully. Kidneys, liver and platelets are fine.
So, today, I'm calling her ped, and we'll probably get referred on to a dermatologist.
And, on top of all that, our orange tabby cat some how got out last night and we can't find him. What a night!
