What do you use to teach drug awareness to your children? I've looked at the materials at The Partnership for a Drug-Free America site (http://www.drugfree.org/), but I'm wondering if anyone has a good resource they can share.

Thanks!

I've obtained pamphlets in the past from my local Boy Scout office. You don't have to be in scouting to purchase materials from the Scout store.

I'm glad that works for you, and I hope it continues to be successful. Having watched a neighbor's 18yo son enter heroin rehab for the 2nd time in the past month, and knowing that the parents have told their son about the dangers of drugs, clearly sometimes more specific steps are needed. I am not willing to take a chance on something as serious as this issue, and I am looking for specific input on ways to handle a very real issue.

Thank you.

They are FREE. Here is the blurb from their website:
------------------------------------------------------------------
Mind Over Matter - Complete Set [Grades 5–9]
Contains eight magazines. This series encourages students to reject drug use by helping them understand the effects of drug use on the brain. In each magazine, Sara Bellum—a budding young science student—takes students on a scientific journey to learn about the brain’s complex responses to specific drugs including hallucinogens, inhalants, marijuana, methamphetamine, nicotine, opiates, steroids, and stimulants.

I haven't received them yet so I can't comment on the quality/usefulness.

Order them here:

Thank you; I saw when I went to the site that they also offer some of their materials in download pdf form. This material looks like a good resource for both kids and parents. Thanks!

I've been wondering how and when to begin educating my dc about drugs.

I remember my public school started in 3rd grade. The peril of sniffing glue was our first topic.

We watch Dog the Bounty Hunter and talk about what drug use has done to the lives of the people he catches. Some of the people live in such horrible conditions and they are so messed up and so emotional.

We talk about it quite a bit. Just like stranger safety and touching.:001_smile:

The local police have helped tremendously in this area. Dd has been able to see what real drugs look like, something we can't do at home.
