I voted religious before I thought about my other group :)

I wish there was a gifted hs group in my area, and a high school co-op hs group, and a ...... the secular one group I belong to is there cause I started it, and I belong to a religous hs group too.

Lots of groups to join around here.
I belong to one that has a statment of faith, a Christian group that is open to all and I help put together some programs for families who do things a little differently--secular, foster/adoption, unschooling, etc which is starting to develop into its own group.
So I checked Christian and Secular.

The only groups in my area are religious. I tried starting a secular group, but got no response. I decided to leave it be and we join community activities rather than homeschool sponsored ones.
I do attend a mom's night out and am on a yahoo group for our area, but no real support group.

because our homeschooling group has dwindled away. :( This has made the past couple of years difficult, so we're looking for other options for our dd's. This decision is also because of my dh's heart problems, which were diagnosed last fall. I'm glad to hear many of you have a good group!

I said religious, but really, it's just a very informal group of the homeschooling families from church. We don't have covenants or bylaws or anything. In fact, I head it up and we meet monthly for potlucks and the kids do presentations/reports, whatever the theme is for that month.
I don't belong to any formal groups, because I just don't want to be bothered by the politics and/or religious conflicts. I don't have time for it.

You did not include "inclusive." That is the type we belong to and the only type I would be comfortable joining.

I voted religious, but I started in a secular group. It was further away and the scheduling did not fit us. I wish I still was a member of a more inclusive group.

"None" is not really accurate for me, it's just the closest thing you have. We have a yahoo group with more than 350 area families who post on it. We all share info, post about field trips we'd like to do, offer classes, etc., etc. So it's sort of like a loosely structured coop, and I'd call it secular, as it includes those of all faiths and no faiths. But it's really not a coop.....

It's hard if not impossible to find a secular group. I would be okay with a religious group if I didn't have to sign a statement of faith. I refuse to lie so most groups don't want me since I won't sign.

but really like the term "inclusive", which others have mentioned.
I have appreciated a group that includes people of many backgrounds. My beliefs are sometimes challenged, but I wanted that when I chose the group I did.

The secular group is more of an inclusive group. Most of the members are Christian who homeschool for a variety of reasons. We also have Muslims, athiests, agnostics and I am sure there are others I have not included. I LOVE this group. These families are my tribe!
The Catholic group is a great group and I really like these women, but I feel wierd because they are SOOO much more Catholic than me. I didn't grow up with many of these traditions so I sometimes feel like a fish out of water. I think I am one of the few who does not use a canned Catholic curriculum. However, I am learning from these women and I think they are learning from me (who lives outside of their box:)) Another thing I like about this group is that they do not have a statement of faith (even though I would have no problem signing it). They welcome other families who are not Catholic to participate in any of the activities, but I am sure many are not interested those that have a Catholic focus.

we are not memebers of any "group" but we do attend (and I teach at) our public school co-op, so I checked secular in the vote.

targeted to the whole family. We have around 93 member families - it's only a support group, not a cover school per hs law in AL. BUT - and this is the amazing part - at any given meeting, you will find over 35-40 dads in attendance. It's truly a blessing.
Some older hschooled teens run a program for the kids (ages 6-12) based on J. Piper's Desiring God curric. They study a missionary each month, and learn scripture, and are sent home with a "discipleship sheet" for family discussion. Plus there's a nursery available, if desired.
I'm thinking this is not exactly the turn this discussion was taking, but we had a great meeting last night, so I'm a little "pumped". We are truly blessed with this group - if I move, it will be soooo sad to leave them. . . . :(

We are currently groupless :( But I'm hoping to either start or breath life back into a dying one. All the groups we have been members of or taken part in, were either secular or inclusive. All have fallen apart or lost most members for one reason or another. I wonder if secular groups are harder to keep active due to a lack of similar beliefs?

Last year we were part of a five-family co-op. It was secular - our family was the only one with any formal religious affiliation. We were also the non-unschoolers. Schedules didn't mesh this year, so it fell by the wayside. It was great for us at that point, but I don't really feel the need for a group right now. We're busy and productive and happy. :)
