Hi!

Just saw an ad for Systematic Mathematics, and wondered if anyone has used it... Likes? Dislikes??

Thanks!

I got them to send me some samples of the dvd's. The instructor, a retired math teacher, is teaching a single student with whom he interacts during the sessions. His style is very much what you'd think of from your high school math time most likely. He seems very thorough and interested, but it's definitely not a high-tech or flashy thing, no computer graphics or engaging wizardry. I can see where it would be right for some people, especially an adult student who needs the review and has the patience to focus. A younger student might not find it as engaging. How old is your dc?

her least favorite subject... sounds like it could be on the boring side? I'll have to see if I can get a sample.

Thanks!

Yup, boring would sum it up. It put me to sleep, and I don't think a 12 yo who's disinterested in math would enjoy it either. I'd look for something more interactive and engaging. You know, it's not what I'd normally like (man in pigtail and all), but what was the name of that company, oh I forget... There's a company with this young man teaching, and he's VERY engaging. Maybe start a new thread on video math and see what you get. This man had long hair pulled back and was rather, um, hip or up-to-date, but he would certainly hold someone's attention. His presentation seemed solid, the curriculum was well-liked, and it integrated new technology and graphics. Sorry I don't remember the name, but someone around here will. (Now it's going to bug me, lol!)

Ok, I couldn't remember the name, but here's a link http://cathyduffyreviews.com/math/math-index.htm for Cathy Duffy's website where she has a whole bunch of math video options for you. Some of them are in her top picks, so it should give you some good options to consider. Good luck!
