Almost afraid to ask, but, what does the red dot next to my name mean?

I never noticed it before it went red, today. Then I noticed that some folks have green dots but most are gray.

I also don't know how to view my reputation. I looked through the FAQ but didn't see anything.

Help?

I figured out that it displays that way because I decided to hide myself while I'm browsing. I'd rather be seen than have a big red dot next to my name, so I'm gonna go switch that back now.

I also can now see the two threads on which my reputation was rated, but not the messages within those and not the user who rated me. From all of the hullabaloo, I guess that's normal.

Ranking and rating and hiding and big red dots . . . makes me feel like I'm back in junior high.

I didn't think about someone believing I might have a bad 'rep'.

I don't think the red dot shows up to everyone else, though. We just see you as gray.

The red dot is just to let YOU know that you're cloaked.

I think. I've never seen anybody with a red dot, FWIW.

I don't see a dot by you at all, but I have a red dot since I am invisible too.

Thank you! I sent you one back. It appears with a green dot next to it, while the other two I apparently have are gray. Does that mean that you're currently online, perhaps? Or that the others are negative?

From what I've read here, grey rep points mean that the person who sent them to you is still fairly low on the "hive mind" totem pole. I think posters need to have a certain number of posts before they can give green rep points - prior to that point their rep points appear in gray : )
