My ds 17 is going to a murder mystery party on Saturday night. It looks to have a medieval theme, and he has been assigned the part of the sheriff.

Here is part of the description:
"You are the sheriff and thus you have power in the community. You must come dressed in your medieval best. Due to your recent acquisition of riches from the poor, you have yourself outfitted in gold and jewels. Act arrogant and pompous, so that people of lower stature will respect you."

I'm not good with costumes. I can't spend much money on this, probably $25 at most. I have a glue gun, I have basic sewing skills, but can't do anything fancy, and I don't have hours to spend. I can make a trip to a thrift shop tomorrow, if that's helpful, and I can go to Walmart or somewhere like that tomorrow.

So....any ideas?

Gaudy costume jewelery, like the kind found in the grocery store toy aisle.

I made use of sweat pants or tights and an oversized t-shirt (for a tunic) in my medieval dress for years.

Since Halloween stuff is available, you might be able to find an medieval lord costume for a pittance. Failing that, snag a cloak on the cheap, and a big belt.

No ideas, but that sounds like so much fun!

Ergh. To do that properly you need to be either brilliant or able to hire something. Do you know what standard everyone else is dressing to? The best I can recommend is a tight shirt, tight pants, a cloak, boots, raiding everyone's jewellery boxes for rings and necklaces, and a hat. Must have a hat. All bad medieval costumes look way better with a hat. Preferably a hat with a feather. http://www.virtue.to/articles/mens_hats.html Something like this shouldn't be too hard. Make a mock up first, just to be sure it fits.

Big piece of material for cloak, tights or leggins, tunic tied at waist (or BIG long sleeve shirt tied), and fake, toy jewelry like earlier poster said. There should be faux shields and swords at dollar stores, maybe spray paint them, and something like that to cut into a hat?

Best of luck!

Ooh, and at Michael's you can get packs of those fake jewels and glue them on his jewelry, or whatever.

Or maybe a good gumball machine? But I think dollar stores are a good bet for the jewelry, too, in the kids aisle.
