How can you tell if pond snails are dead?

:confused: How much should we expect pond snails to move? How do we know if they're alive or dead? Has anyone raised snails before?

Are they in an aquarium? We didn't get our snails from a pond; we bought them. They grip onto the side of the aquarium or onto rocks, etc., on the bottom. They move veerrry slowly but you can sometimes see a clear trail they leave where they slide along the glass and eat the scum.
