And, what do you need besides a dictionary? Is this a good game for a group of 12 adults? I have heard it is fun but I am mising the "game gene."

you will need a dictionary and a paper and pencil for everyone. A person picks a word out of the dictionary and asks everyone to write down a definition that they think someone else would think that that was the true definition. The person picking out the word also writes down the definition from the dictionary on his paper. That person picks up all the papers, mixes them up, and then reads each definition to the group. After the definitions are read, the definitions are read again and people vote whether they think that the definition that is being read, at that time, is the true definition. After all that, the spokesperson tells them the true definition. Tally the scores and the person with the most votes wins that round. The play continues around the circle until everyone gets a chance to pick a word from the dictionary. The winner is the one with the most votes.

That being said, I think it is a very good game for adults.

Sounds like fun. I vaguely remember playing something like that many years ago, but I think there was just one dictionary that got passed around.

You get one point if you pick the correct definition.

You also get one point for each person who voted for your FAKE definition as being the correct one.

but paper and pencil for everyone (That is what I meant to say.). Sorry I forgot the scoring, but what the others said is also how WE scored the game.

You divide the group in half, give one person in the 1st group the true definition of the word and the others in that group a blank piece of paper. They are given some time to come up with a definition of the word. Then all the people in the 1st group give their definition and the other group picks which one they think is correct. If they get it right, they get a point. If the get it wrong, the 1st group gets a point.

If you listen to Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me on NPR, they do something similar. It's often quite hilarious.:D
