I would love to get some tips or suggestions on helping my DS improve his memory. He is 12, diagnosed with ADHD, dyscalculia, and very poor visual/spatial processing (this tested as on a 5 year old level).
He has a terrible time in remembering things he learns, particularly things that involve sequences or steps. This is really impacting math (hence the dyscalculia diagnosis) and frustrating both of us.
He has never been able to truly memorize math facts. He cannot do math problems beyond simple addition/subtraction/multiplication on his own, he simply cannot remember the steps involved. I have to sit by him and prompt him through every step of the math problems. We are currently working on fractions, using the Key to Fractions series. He gets the concepts, but just cannot remember how to do the problems on his own. This trouble with memory is not only in math, it's in all areas, although it impacts math the most in our school day.
Any advice on how to improve memory functions in a 12 year old who is easily bored and frustrated? Money is a huge issue, so I would love to find things we could do at home.
