Since there have been several "starting school" threads I though I would start one for those of us who will be sending one or more of our dc to school this year. I must admit, I'm slightly envious of the "starting school" threads, especially the ones that mention all the goodies that the UPS guy brings. Buying spiral notebooks and erasers at Target just doesn't have the same appeal, lol.
After hsing from the beginning, my oldest went to ps hs last year and is going back. My youngest will be going to middle school this year.
I know there are many different reasons some of has have chosen to enroll our dc in school. It was a long, gut-wrenching process that lead us to the decision to have both our dc in school. I'm finding many of my hs friends irl don't understand that.
I'm a little apprehensive, but realize the decision is reversible if need be, and am confident in the WTM academic foundation we laid for them.
I'm also a bit frustrated. I was going to substitute teach (at my dc's schools, of course--they're not getting rid of me that easily!). However, I missed the substitute in-service b/c of an error on the part of the school district, so I won't get to start that for a couple months at least. I won't start my city council office until January, so I'm waiting here in limbo.

My 10th grader. I still have a senior and an 8th grader at home. I guess I got to do the best of both. It was fun buying and doing for school stuff for dd because we had never done that before, but I still got to get my boxes of school goodies for those here at home.
I have 1 in college (freshman), 2 in high school (9th and 11th), 2 in middle school (7th and 8th), 3 in elementary (3rd and 2 4th graders) and I am SO happy to be homeschooling 1 6th grader...
I spent $650.00 up front for college classes/books (most of which will be returned when they process scholarship money)We spent $300.00 on school supplies for all the children, plus $200.00 enrolling at the high school (asb fees, athletic fees, p.e. uniforms, locks for lockers, class supply fees!!...) and another $60.00 for the middle schoolers (p.e. uniforms and some such other fees). Not fun.
I am still waiting for books and hope to start homeschooling next week... but I am using an isp and the program is moving slower than slow... (CAVA-K12).

Oldest dd is in 10th grade at the high school of the arts (and loving it), and ds is in 3rd at the elementary school of the arts.
For now, these are the right places for my kids.

My youngest ds(13) started back to ps 8th grade yesterday. He's so excited to be back in ps. He was previously in ps until the beginning of 3rd grade. I hope this works out to be a positive experience for him.
My older ds(16) is in ps 11th grade. He's been in ps for all three high school years to date.
My dd(18) graduated as a dual enrolled homeschooled/public high school student this past June. Her college classes began last week.
I'm a bit of a loss today, my second day home alone while they're all off elsewhere. :(

I've homeschooled for 14 years now (since the day they were born:tongue_smilie:)
Last week, I sent my 14yo ds to private christian high school (9th gr)
My middle school ds also went off to private school.
It is bitter sweet. I loved homeschooling, and hoped to do it all their schooling through. However, as time goes on, one must be open to new opportunities and calling. For this year, it was best that they went to school. I tell myself it doesn't have to be permanent, just this year, one year at a time.
Since I've been on the WTM boards for MANY years, I'm having a hard time withdrawing, so I hope you all don't mind letting me hang out here a while.

I tell you what, if DD doesn't stop her infernal crying over having to write, I'll send her back myself! UGH Day 2 and the tears are flowing. :banghead:

My oldest starts as a Jr. tomorrow at our local high school - his fraternal twin is now in the vocational program at the local special needs school (he went back last week), my oldest dd begins her high school career at a foreign language academy school-within-a-school seven miles away tomorrow. Youngest is still at home one more year and champing at the bit to go to school and be with kids. Sorry, kid - not with that math program they use, nor the lack of history/science.
