I have this habit of making lists. I have pretty little spiral bound books or blank books everywhere - just for making lists. (Although, one of my list books doubles as my journal - but, usually the lists can serve that purpose, too.)
I have a list book at work - where I write down everything I need to work on and "cross" it out in yellow highlighter when I'm finished (highlighter because I can tell it's done, but can still read what the project was). I have a list book on my bedside table (the pseudo journal I just mentioned). I keep a book in my diaper bag and a book in my car. I also have a clip on the inside of our front door where I can put lists. Oh! And on the fridge.
And I have all kinds of lists for home school.
Okay, I need to go make another list... things I need to print from the internet for home school next weekend.
I can't be alone, right?

I just made a list of the books I put on hold at the library, which I took from the list I made of the books we will need to put on hold at the library, listed by week. On the other side of the library list is my to-do list for the week. On the schoolroom table is the list of things dd wants for her birthday, alongside the list of books I saw at the library last time that I need to add to the list of books to check out, which will be listed with the hold books on the appropriate week. My grocery list is in order by aisle, on the counter by the coffee maker. My list of birthdays is hanging on the fridge next to the calendar. Oh and I have a list of people I am waiting to hear responses from about invitations to my Mom's upcoming birthday party.
Feel better yet? :D i could continue.........
It's a sickness. Really. Is there a detox for this?

Let's see, my list notebooks are:
1. on the nightstand - to write down any thoughts, inspirations, etc I have while in bed
2. on my desk - to write down daily "to do's" and any info I gather from people I talk to on the phone
3. in my church bag - to write down any relevant info I need to know while at church
4. in my purse - in case I need to write something down while I'm out and to keep shopping lists
I also have a general shopping list on the fridge for everyone to add to and lists of everyday chores for the kids and the current semester's schedules for dh and I.
My 11yo has picked up the list habit and wrote a "before church to do list" which she posted on the fridge and writes her own little to-do list on paper for especially busy or out-of-the-ordinary days. My mom also carried (carries) a steno pad around with her with her daily to do lists and phone call info, so apparently, it's hereditary.

Fellow listmaker here. I can't function without my lists. My mom keeps the list in her head. What's up with that? That's not a 'list'. I don't think you can call it a list if you don't write it down. That's just not right. If I put it on a list, I don't have to think about it again until I refer to said list.
There is a slight danger of keeping more than one list. For the most part though several lists is better than no list.

Fellow list maker here! I have all kinds of cute notebooks too (have you seen the patterned mini composition books at Target? :001_wub:) I add things to my lists just to check them off. I rank them from 1 to 3 for how important it is that something gets done today.
I don't want a cure. :001_smile:

But, I use index cards. It's a sickness, I'm sure of it. Different colors for different lists!
Pink--gift list ideas
Blue--curriculum lists, book lists, school project lists
Yellow--menu ideas, grocery lists
Green--to do lists, ministry to do lists
White--budgeting
Purple--important dates to remember, phone numbers of people I meet
I punch a hole in the left corner and attatch them together with a ring (like the ones in the binders). I carry blank ones attatched at the corner by a ring in my purse. I have the index cards in my purse so I have them with me. I keep a notebook by my bedside and at my desk so that I can write things down as I need to and then transfer them onto the final list on the appropriate card.
So, do I win for the most obsessive-compulsive list maker?:D

Have to admit, I am one too. It drives dh crazy.
I think I saw on Horchow, some cute little lists and sticky pads, I can get my name on. I think I am going to buy them for my bday.

I love making lists. But I often toss them after I've made them. Marking things off my list doesn't inspire me -- making the list inspires me.
Dh still thinks it's hilarious that I always make a grocery list and rarely take a list with me to the store. But I write the list to help me think through what I need. After that, I no longer need the list. And I guess that's true with most of my list-making -- I use them for planning and working through ideas, not for the list themselves. But I do make lists all the time... :)

I am right there with you. I have journals going back for years, and they're a terrific record of what I was doing at the time. Lists of baby names, seed orders, books to get my hands on, garage sale addresses, life goals...it's all in there!

Oh yeah, I got lists. I got lists of my lists! You should see my Amazon wishlist! Now THAT's a list for you! I love, love crossing things off. But I don't normally keep my lists--I like to toss them when I'm done.

I got a Blackberry a few months back, which I know is s'posed to be useful for emailing and websurfing but I use it basically for a glorified ... well, PHONE. But recently my sister showed me the Memo function and now I've started developing an extensive list-making folder on my Blackberry. LOVE IT. I have "To-Do" lists (Household, Uppercase Living, Ministry, the Fair), a Look Up On The Internet list, shopping lists w/all the various stores I frequent, etc. Now if I think of something, I grab my phone and make an entry on the appropriate list.
I *wish* I liked the Calendar function on my phone -- for that I still like a big, better visual presentation. I've got my calendar in Microsoft Word.

Oh I love love love that idea. Must go steal now.
I too am a bit of a compulsive list maker. Traveling I make a list when I pack of what I need to pack and have packed and keep one copy at home and one copy in the suitcase. Then when I re-pack to go home I can tick things off again so I know everything comes home with me. Love my lists.

Wow, and I thought my lists were cool:001_smile:. I just bought a bunch of colored cards this fall for school, I think I'm off to get a corner ring.
See I make killer lists, but then I loose them:rolleyes:.

Oh yes!!! This is me! I have one notebook with my lists in it. Sticky notes stick out the sides - each one a label of a list:
Budget list
Homeschooling list
Spring Cleaning list
Master To Do list (things around the house - like paint bedroom)
TO DO list (day to day things)
I also list each day what our chores are around the house. Those go on a sticky note on the fridge. I think this is why I like Sonlight so much - it's one big list!!!
Oh - vacation lists. Those are in Excel so I can change them as I need. I currently have our Disney list up and I'm adding to it daily! We leave in 2 weeks!!!

I used to make lists all the time, had my life planned out in detail. Things for the house, my garden, even plans to clean out the closet. But then a funny thing happened, well maybe not so funny, I nearly lost my youngest. After, lists seem to lose their grip on me. I could no longer plan long range nor even short range. I still make simple lists, so I don't forget to go to the bank or take Mac to drama, but gone are all the long lists (plans). I have lived in the now for the last seven years.

My name is Carrie, and I'm a compulsive list maker.
It's genetic. My grandmother is a list maker, my mother is a list maker, and even my girls are becoming list makers. (DS is not. He memorizes everything. EVERYTHING.)
I almost never complete my lists. Usually because I lose them.
I try to keep *one* list notebook on hand, but I'm often too lazy to put down whatever I'm working on, so I'll start a new list on whatever is handy. I wind up with about 3 grocery lists each week, I have 2 to-do lists floating around right now, and at least 4 different lists of things I want to pick up before we start school next week.
I also have a Day Runner, a weekly white board, a monthly magnetic calendar, and an online calendar. They're all marked for different events.
Yes, I have ADHD. Yes, I am off my medication right now. Yes, I need to refill my prescription before we start school! It's on my list.

I have small memo books in my purse, car, and beside the bed for when I need to make a list. I have index cards in a caddy magnetic to the fridge and beside my computer for lists/notes. I also have two 3 ring binders going with lists, one is my "shopping" master notebook. The other contains "school" lists. I also have lists on the computer, but I prefer paper lists.
Now, if I just had enough Twist Erase Pencils to go with those notebooks.

dh and I are both list makers, and we joke that our 10-yr-old dd was born with a notebook and pencil clutcher in her hand. when we went to chicago, she spent her souvenir money on a 'travel packing list' notepad! there was a variety of them, and she was in a tizzy choosing - - so many lovely checkie boxes and shaded rows.

That's the story of my life - at work. I constantly write down things I've already completed. It helps me to be able to look back to confirm, at least in my own mind, that I actually did X.

Oh yeah... I used to keep lists everywhere, but I would lose them too often when I really needed them.
So, I moved on to more organized list-keeping with a day timer type system. But that thing was heavy to lug around everywhere. And, you know how pens disappear...
Now I'm trying very hard to get used to writing my lists down on Google Docs or My Listy (http://www.mylisty.net/) online, and access them with my phone. It's not quite the same as writing everything down! And of course I keep paper copies of things that are really important. But for day to day list access... it's pretty good.

I love my lists, but often misplace my big notebook of lists and plans. So I finally started using the Mac "Stickies" application which puts little post-it notes on the desk top. I can have them in different colors, have several going at a time, hide them if I want, but since I never misplace my laptop computer, my lists are always handy. I **love** it!!
I still like the act of writing out my thoughts by hand, whether planning ideas or lists, and the satisfying act of crossing things out with a pencil or pen, so I don't think I will ever go completely to having everything computerized.

Me too! The problem is......I make lists like "to-do" things around the house (paint the baby's room, paint our room, paint the eaves, re-tile the bathroom) but the list just sits there, collecting dust. Oooops, there's another list
1-dust off all the to-do lists. :D

I tend to make lists, too, LOL, but I don't think I'm quite as organized about it as you.
I'm sitting here looking at a list of people going to Flora Cliff with me this Friday; a list of folks going to the fish hatchery with me next week; a list of those going to the aquarium with me and who has paid for that; and also lists for future trips to a pet store, reptile zoo, nature sanctuary and a concert that's not until springtime. I also have a list of all theatre dates for the year along with those who are going with me to those and what they owe me for the tickets I've already purchased. My calendar is also in front of me with most of the stuff we're doing now through October listed on it already.
But I have no pretty notebooks! Gee, that would make it more fun!

I make lists for everything too. I make weekly menu lists, grocery shopping list to go with menu, list of things that need to be done for the week, book lists, chore lists, lists of things to put on kitchen calendar. I have to have lists to function. Without them things get lost and if it's not on the calendar in the kitchen and in my family organizer book that I carry, it did not happen. It's nice to know I am not alone with my need for lists:D

I have to go make some lists now.
