I have always done scarves when I've crocheted for xmas for my fam. I did an amazing one last year for dd, that even had corkscrew curliques for the fringe, but I'd love something else this year, especially a poncho for her. I know I can do complicated, but I have only done scarves and am very afraid to try anything else, like rounds, etc. Oh, I did one slipper sock, and it came out too small (I usually do too loose, so I made it really tight), so I never finished the other.
I'm listing this really cool pattern for a purse I'd love to make, think I'll attempt, but would love others, if you know of any good ones!
Thanks!

I have no help to offer, MtA, but I am wondering now what is the difference between crocheting and knitting. I thought the former was with a type of thread and the latter was with yarn, but your link proved my theory incorrect.

No, not at all! Totally different methods, usually with yarn, although I know you can crochet with thread (like for doilies, fancy lace, etc.). I have tried knitting and don't like it, while I love to crochet.
Crochet uses one hook, and, to me, have more variety. Knitting uses two needles, and, again, to me, doesn't have as many types of stitches you can do, although people that I know that love knitting, LOVE it, and say it can go much faster. It has just never been my thing.
Ponchos are rectangles sewn together with fringe added. :D

I'd love the pattern, Tammy!
Thank you, if it isn't too much trouble?

Xmas.
I know that you don't mean any harm, but it feels really, really hurtful and offensive to me.

I'm sorry, I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone! It is a normal abbreviation to me--why does it bother you so much?

Xmas.
I know that you don't mean any harm, but it feels really, really hurtful and offensive to me. It is part of the Chi rho symbol referencing the Christ in Greek . It is a beautiful sign of reverence.

I guess I still don't get it, but I am not Christian. As I always say, we don't do the religious side of Christmas, just the commercial, materialistic side ;). Nah, we do the santa, family side :).
I meant no offense, and will try not to use it here, but can't promise I will remember, although I will really try! I have used it forever, though, so please forgive me if I forget! It is like Native American--I find Indian, or American Indian horribly offensive, and people never get it, or, often, when I tell them, don't care--my father was from India, I am Indian, but it doesn't seem to matter to them, and I see people use it wrongly here all the time.
Also, isn't Christmas for "Christ"? Why would the "Chi ro" symbol have more significance? That is what I meant when I said I don't get it.

Like I said, I know you didn't mean anything by it. But I have seen it used in other contexts as a way of x-ing out Christ, and so that is a strong association for me. I am familiar with the chi rho monogram, but the x is just the chi without the rho, and it really isn't the same nor is it polite. I know, I know, you didn't mean it like that. I just wanted to say something because it literally hurts when I see that word, and there it was in the subject line. We all have our sensitivities; I don't think I have all that many but I do have a few strong ones.

Ooh, no, didn't mean it as x-ing out Christ, even though I am not Christian. It is Christmas to us, even though it doesn't have the same meaning in our house. Certainly never meant anything like that.
I do appreciate your letting me know, though--I had absolutely no idea. I will try my best to watch it. I certainly prefer not to offend, when possible :).
