First day of the last semester of high school, and first day of the first semester of college for ds18! After giving him his assignments this morning, he worked hard until around 12:30, then I bent his ear for a good half-hour about getting a job and the need for him to pay for a lot of his college education. I covered a lot of ground in that time, even giving advice about today's first classes (along the lines of, "Now, don't be surprised if you have to take notes today. A smile goes a long way. Remember the 3 in the front of the room number means it's on the 3rd floor--you can always ask at the info desk if you get lost...) I even told him to not wear his backpack with both straps, because he'd "look like a freshman (geek, but I didn't say that)." He was getting that anxious, "you've said too much" look in his eyes. I babbled on for a while, then it was time to leave (I had to drive him to the CC as I need the car).
So, we get there, and he hands me $20 to do some emergency grocery shopping--oh geez, just like his dad (who is out of town just when I am out of $!). Then, he opens the car door and heads off to class.
With his backpack slung over his shoulder by one strap.
I cried all the way home. Well, almost. I stopped at McDonald's first. And the grocery store. :D
Houston, we have Lift-off!!!
