What's the deal with that?
Is it for accountability? Your own records? Something to show Grandma so she knows you're not slacking off all day?
And do you all *really* read everyone else's every week?
I think I want in . . .

I've decided to do it--just because I need to know we didn't slack off all week!
it really doesn't matter if anyone reads it--though a comment or two is always nice!
And I do try to read at least three.

I started it, I wanted to keep a digital scrapbook of our weeks and provide myself a bit of accountability. If I had to 'report' on what we had done for the week, I felt more obligated to follow through. When a few others saw what I was doing, they asked if they could do it too and then I created logos and a Mr. Linky so we can visit each other each week.
It's not to prove anything to anyone but me and the kids. The kids love to see their work and to see other kids' work. I don't read everyone's, there's over 100 reporters right now.

The ones that link here just post to make it a little easier on themselves, so that they know when a new report has been made.
I do it for the reasons as Jessica said, by the way, thanks Jessica! I do try to read all the ones that post here, some weeks though I don't get to them all.

The Weekly Reports have been so great for us. I end up being more like a twice monthly reporter though! ;) The grandparents love to see what ds is doing and then call and brag on him. It makes his day. Also, it gives him a sense of satisfaction to see his work online. It somehow makes it "official" for him.
As for me, it's a good follow-through. It forces me to stop and evaluate what we did and how it went. Sometimes it's easy just to push on without stopping enough to do that important reflection because we're off to the next thing (this is true with my personality, anyway!) I love the accountability as well. I try to read a few others each week but couldn't even attempt to read them all. :D
Hope you join the fun!

I noticed your read-aloud -- we just started The Railway Children last night!! We LOVE E. Nesbit's books! We have already read Five Children and It, The Phoenix and the Carpet, The Story of the Amulet, The Story of the Treasure Seekers, and The Enchanted Castle.

I do it for my own benefit. I can reflect about our week and see if we did enough "fun" extras and art projects. Sometimes it motivates me to do more fun projects so I can post about them. I like to read other's and see what great projects they do; it inspires me. It is definitely not for fame and fortune! My most faithful readers are my mom and grandparents! But it is worth it for them. They love to see what the girls have been up to.

One reason I started the weekly reporting was to show the grandparents. Now we live near one set of grandparents, so they don't really need to see the reports. The other set doesn't "get" blogging - my dear FIL doesn't read my blog, it turns out, because he sees it as a private journal and doesn't want to invade my privacy
Oh, I love him, but he so does not understand us wacky kids and our internets. I just had to share that.
My DH likes me to write up what we do, in case something should ever happen to me. However, I feel like I'm really boring when I list chapters and pages on my blog. I need to come up with a way to give him that information, but not feel like I'm boring the world. I am not bored when I read other people's weekly reports with chapters and page numbers - not at all. I just feel I'm being boring when I do it. Go figure.

We use it for our own written down memory of the year, and for the grandparents/family/friends to see what we are doing. Last year I started out good, but in the winter/spring really slacked off. This year I am hoping to be more consistant and have a record of each week of our school year.
And no I don't read everyone's every week, but I do like to read them when I have the time! It's interesting to see how other homeschoolers are doing everything. I try to leave encouraging comments on their blogs, and I enjoy when I receive comments on ours! I'll be posting week 1 for this year this coming week! :001_smile:

If anything, I do it for my children. My oldest, and so far the only one who can read, LOVES to read our weekly report! (At least someone does.) The younger two get excited to see their pictures on the computer, too.
I also do it because it's my way of journalizing our home school activities. I like to write in a journal - I'm not a daily entry kind of girl, but I do write when something momentous happens. I also use the same book to make lists (I REALLY like lists).
