 This is why I always go with standards - we can not have anything around here smaller than the cats!

One day, after the chicks had moved outside, Jack the cat climbed the 5ft hogwire type fence into then chicken area.

What Jack did not know was that Mr. Rooster (aka Zeus, the Buff Orpington) had grown. Mr. Rooster apparently still carried some hard feelings from all those times he was in the dog kennel and had to run from side to side to escape Jack's questing claws before somebody rescued him and booted the cat back outside.

Mr. Rooster won. Who knew a cat levitate over a fence like that? Who knew that it would have to happen TWICE (Jack's on his 6th life at least)...:glare:

Now however, Mr. Rooster has made peace with all three cats. When they are together the cats studiously ignore the chickens, and if they do begin to stalk them Mr. Rooster just gives them the look:sneaky2: and they quietly retire.

The moral is (and we are getting some banties in a week or so), consider getting a big rooster or maybe a large cranky hen. Even orange tabbies respect superior fire power... lol

I have big chickens and a big rooster over at our farmhouse, but I was going to keep them there, and bring the banty pair home just for fun. Maybe I'll have to bring Ol' Hurley over here to teach the cats some manners.

Great photo! However, we had quite a macho bantie rooster who thought he ruled the world. He may have given a mild-tempered cat a challenge. We just loved him! He had that "short guy" complex and overreacted to absolutely everything, including planes flying overhead! LOL. He also did his share of "dancing" with the full-sized hens. We were impressed how he perfected it. If he was uphill, and they were downhill, he could get a running start and ta-da..land where he needed to in order to get the job done (grin)

Blessings,
Camy
