OK, so that title's lame. Hmmm.... Have to give that some thought. Anyway, I just got back from another 2.5-3 mile long walk with my marathoning sister. She's whipping me back into shape, slowly but surely, following my back injury. Then we're probably taking the kids on a hike through a nearby Civil War battlefield.

Have a great morning, peeps!

How long is your sister in town? And, when she's done with you, can she come here an help get me ready for my race?

I did 3 miles. But, after the 5 I did yesterday, my legs felt like jello and I had to walk a little in the middle. Maybe the humidity had something to do with it. I think I need to switch my long run day to Sat, so that I can take a day off afterward.

Good job getting out there, ladies. I'm off for my run in a few minutes. My lower back was super tight when I woke up this morning, and WOW! Did it hurt. I woke up to my wonderful, monthly visitor yesterday, so that's all it is -- and the older I get, the worse the lower back pain gets. :glare: I can't wait for that witch to go away forever...

Anyhoo....I'll report back in when I get back :D

Thanks! I HATE running when I have my visitor. Lately I've been getting back pain with mine too. I couldn't run one day this week because of it. Yuck. So, it's an age thing??

How was your run?

I walked with our dog for about 4 miles around our land - dh mows me a path around the perimeter, and it was beautiful (muggy, though) early this morning. Have a great day, everyone!

See that is just one I the reasons I have always wanted a sister.

Well we are getting ready for a camping trip. We leave on Sunday and will return late Tuesday. I don't really like camping so this should be interesting. Basically my guys agreed to go to 5 musicals this year if I agreed to go on one camping trip. I thought it was a great deal. Now just get me though the next 3 days and I will be set. The campground has some great walking trails so I should enjoy that part of the trip. We also plan to do the peddle boats. They basically eat constantly so I am going to have to watch how much I eat. I refuse to blow my diet during this trip. I have selected good healthy food to take for myself. Ds plans to torture me with onions rings. Shhh don't tell him but I don't like onion rings :smilielol5:

Dh and I are going walking now. We usually do about 2 miles.

Dh and I went for 2 miles....over half running. I had to remind myself how far I"ve come endurance wise since I first started. I have been running/walking for about 6-8 weeks and when I first started I could not even run 1/3 down the length of my street. Today I ran all the way down it (.6 miles) and almost half the way back up. And I am a lot less winded at the end of the 2 miles than before.

You are so funny!

I think 5 musicals for 1 camping trip is a good trade for the person who doesn't like camping. :) I however, love to camp. We haven't been this year at all. :(

Two miles done. My left leg felt fine while I was running, though it was a bit stiff when I first started out.

Now it's killing me. :glare:

I'm going to the doctor next week for it. This has to be more than just a pulled muscle. :(

4 miles today in just under 38 minutes. This week I logged over 20 miles for the first time - woo-hoo!!!! Meanwhile oldest dd is logging ~ 30 miles/week with her XC-team and will be up to 40 miles/week in a couple of weeks - wow! Next week is a "taper" week as the race is next Saturday. I'm hoping to knock a couple of more minutes off my time and be at a 9-minute mile pace.

Wow - great job!! How long is your race again? I'll be interested in reading about what you do to prepare food-wise as well as work out wise this next week. I've just starting thinking about my race and how to handle that!

I usually run in the early am - between 6 and 7 or so. I don't eat before I go, but I do have a glass of water. My leg of the race will probably not start until 10 or 10:30. So, I'll need to eat and drink beforehand. I think I need to run at that time at least once to prepare.

Anyway, good luck next week!!!

Great job everyone!

I did 7 miles today. The last mile was tough, but I pushed through and didn't stop! Usually when I run that long, I feel sore all day. But, I'm happy to report that I just have some soreness in my feet and nothing else! That is good. Now, if I could just get my bunions to go away, I'd be doing great! I have quite a bit of pain in my feet when I run b/c of them. But, my motto has always been "I'd rather be in pain from exercising, than be in pain from not exercising!":)

Ohhh - I LOVE that quote!!! Great run. Are you signed up for another race? Or are you trying to increase your mileage? Or was this just a long day for you? Just curious!

Ha! She's here for 10 days altogether, so my goal is to keep the momentum going even after she leaves. I've never been a runner, but I'm hoping in a few days to start jogging with her. I'll never be able to run with her when she's healthy (she ran Boston this year), but currently she's nursing a knee injury. So she's about at my pace. ;)

That's so awesome! I hope you don't mind I added it to my sig line, with proper credit of course.;)

For myself, I did the whole video toning and all and since my body is, apparently still not back to normal, :glare: I am still having lower left back pain before during and after exercise. Basically it has been with me since the miscarriage so I suspect my hormones are not right even though doc say all my levels are good. Oh well, at least I am still exercising. And, dh says he can see a difference. :). I think that is why last Wednesday's meeting went so well, but that is another thread;).

Dh, ds8 and I went on a 40 minute walk this evening. So add that to our 2 mile walk/run this a.m...

Tomorrow is rest.

No, I'm not signed up for any races, but wish I was as that always gives me motivation to push harder. I am doing a marathon training program {one that Cheryl recommended} to try and get my body in gear to maybe do a half marathon sometime. You all have inspired me, that despite my feet, I may be able to do it! So, right now I'm trying to increase my mileage. I haven't run over 7 1/2 miles. :)

Last night, dh and I also went out for a 5 mile bike ride. So, I got in a lot of activity!:)

LOL! I feel so honored that my motto {or should I say mantra here, since this is WTM??} is in your siggy! I'm sorry that you are having so many aches and pains! But, if exercise doesn't make it worse keep pressing on! On my rest days, I feel like I have a few more aches and pains than when I'm exercising, so after it is all said and done, I would rather exercise! :)

Thanks, Jennifer! The race is 4 miles. It's ~ 3000 women and the cause is breast cancer research. It really is a great race. MANY women come out who are running for the first time, but there are a crew of women who are breaking the 6-minute mile mark. It is so much fun to watch them! And it's great to see all the dads and kids cheering for their wives and moms. Pink is everywhere! The race organizers do an amazing job of making everyone feel so special. The treat us ALL like athletes - even the walkers. It really is just a neat community event.

Like you, I typically don't eat before I run. This week, I will eat normally - which for me includes lean protein, fruits, vegetables, some whole grains, and green smoothies (kale, fruit, bee pollen, flax seed, and protein powder). The night before I will eat a good portion of lean protein - probably tilapia with a citrus seasoning, veggies, and a brown rice. Since the race doesn't start until 8:00 (which is a little late), I'll have a 1/2 cup of oatmeal with unsweetened cranberries and apples on the morning of the race. I will drink a cup of coffee, since this is a regular part of my routine. Through the week, I'll be sure and drink a minimum of 64 oz. of water each day. Friday, I'll drink more. I won't drink any water on the morning of the race until after the race. Some women may "yell" at me for that, but after six kiddoes, drinking water before I run is certain to cause problems! I've found that if I hydrate well the day before I run, I'm okay w/o water on the morning of my run. I'm sure this is not recommended, but it works for me!

For you, running later, I might add a little bit of protein to your morning meal - almonds, or a spoon of peanut butter with a banana, or a smoothie with some protein powder. Thinking of that, I might try my green smoothie BEFORE my runs this week and see how that feels. The advice I've always gotten is not to try anything new on race day - not clothes, not food, etc. If you're not accustomed to drinking Gatorade, don't try it on race day.

I am excited. I'm looking forward to racing with my daughters. We also have a crew of women from our church who are running and we have wicking t-shirts with our church logo on the front pocket position and an artistic rendition of Hebrews 12:1 on the back.

Thanks again, Jennifer, for asking! I'm tapering my distance this week, but will still post. And then I'll give a report on the race after it's over. :)
