My dd turns 10 on the 19th. She's been wanting a sleepover, but I don't want to do that. I feel that I need to do something though...one idea that I thought I could do is have an afternoon tea on her actual birthday and invite a few friends (& the moms & siblings too) and not tell her, make it a surprise. I'm just wondering if this would work during the week? What do you think?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Kristine

I think that having a tea is lovely idea. You could call the other moms to see if it fits with their schedules, being that during the week a lot of kids have activities to go to.

I think having a Tea sounds like a wonderful idea, provided you can schedule it with the other families. I think that would be something she would enjoy and remember.

A child's tea we've been to included lemonade (in a tea-pot) as well as some peppermint tea. We also had finger sandwiches, strawberries dipped in chocolate and little petit-fours (I don't know where they got them - I don't think they were home-made). We also did some games - like "hide the thimble". The girls all came dressed in pretty "tea dresses". I'm not sure sure if older girls would like this but I've seen younger girls have a lot of fun with a trunk of pretty scarves, feather boas, hats and fancy gloves.

One thing that was a real hit on my daughter's tenth birthday was filling the house with 100 (that's ten times ten, you know) balloons. We had some hanging, but a lot just all over the floors.
