Has anyone used both and can compare Alphabet Island and Sing, Spell, Read, and Write? I would mainly be using this with my ds who is 5.
I looked at some sample pages of Alphabet Island 2 and I think the cute stories would also help my third grader learn spelling rules as well. She is a great reader, but a poor speller. When I showed her a sample story she loved it. I wouldn't use this as her only spelling, but just as a supplement.

I haven't used SSRW because I couldn't afford it. I am using Alphabet Island with my 4.5 yr and we love it. We are about to finish the first part of level 1 and will be starting Learning to read on Alphabet Island next week. I have tried a zillion reading programs and he has dragged his heels. He loves letters and has known their sounds since age 2, but I couldn't find a program that would hold his attention, although he wanted to read. He requests to do Alphabet Island and has really enjoyed the letter characters. We listen to the whole CD almost everyday because he loves it and it covers all the way up through level 2. So although we have only been doing the letter sounds, he will tell me that Q has to have U next to it, he tells me the sounds of SH and ph because of listening to the CD and the little rhymes and stories that tell the rules. We are so happy with it. I had been so frustrated that I couldn't find the right program and this is definitely it. I'm sure he would have enjoyed SSRW as well though. Alphabet Island isn't in color and that hasn't been a problem for us though.
