In light of my recent Phone Flub up: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51349 I thought it would be fun to hear some more stories like that if you know them. Another story on me is that I often forget who it is I'm calling just before they answer. I've been able to usually fake my way outta those, & now I write down the name of whom I'm calling so I don't blank out on their name.
Okay, Let's hear some more Flub ups!!

We moved from Colorado to southern Virginia last year. People talk a foreign language here, I swear.
I work part time at our library and I answered the phone last month.
Caller: I need the number for _______________.
Kristine: I'm sorry, you need what?
Caller: The number for the like ________ library.
Kristine: I'm sorry, I can't understand you.
Caller: I need the number for the like ________ library.
(This repeated a few times, and I'm beginning to think it's a crank call.)
Kristine: Can you spell it for me?
Caller: The like . . .
Kristine: The like . . . ?
Caller: Yes, the like.
Kristine: OH, the LAKE!!!!!!!!!
We have a new library open "at the lake," and the caller wanted that phone number.
Maybe I should master this southern thing before trying to learn Latin...

We had a few weeks ago.
My 13yo dd left the answering machine greeting, and she talked a *bit* fast (but we all thought it was intelligible).
We came home one day and listened to our messages. One was of two men, discussing our ans. machine greeting! It was HILARIOUS.
Man 1: What did she say?
Man 2: I think she said, Leave a message.
Man 1: Is THAT what she said???
Man 2: Yeah, I think so.
Man 1: Oh... I thought she was speaking Spanish or something!
All the while, Man 1 is laughing and laughing...
But the funniest thing is, they didn't leave a (real) message!! We kept that for a few days and listened to it, it was so comical sounding.

Everytime I answer the phone the caller asks if my mommy or daddy is home.:glare:
My dh thinks it's hilarious. I don't do answering machines.

 I moved to Central VA from NYC, and I agree. I've been told I talk too fast, to which I always respond, "No, you just think too slow". It sometimes takes them a while to get it ;).

:iagree:OK, this also happens to me from time to time! I have to wonder what I sound like! But, then again, I think I really don't want to know ;).
The best is my daughter, who has left our answering machine message since she was three--it takes about an hour to get it right, well, not quite as long now, but she would flub it and blub it and glub it until I'd be ready to pull my hair out, then our dogs would start barking, then she'd be laughing--we have one, I swear, from a couple of years ago, where you can hear me weeping in the background! And then no one could understand it anyway!
