What are you all planning on doing for the upcoming election? I'd love to hear any and all ideas and/or resources.

C-span in the classroom usually has some interesting offerings around election times. I haven't checked it out yet for this election, but here are some links:

Maybe those will have an idea or two! I'm glad that you brought it up -- we need to begin discussing it more in depth around here also!

All the best to you!

DH bought a computer game (The Political Machine 2008). I haven't yet tried it out to see if it is anywhere near appropriate for our 5 year old (the packaging says "Everyone 10+). I think DH just wanted it for himself!

I also have the game Hail to the Chief.

There are tons of resources here:

I am a little bit embarrased to admit that after I posted I went downstairs to my school bookshelves and found several books for use in an election study. I thought I'd post them since I figure others are looking for information as well...

Presidential Elections by Syl Sobel

How the US Government Works by Syl Sobel

America Votes: How Our President is Elected by Linda Granfield.

Woodrow for President by Peter W. Barnes and Cheryl Shaw Barnes.

A "Mice" Way to Learn About Voting, Campaigns and Elections with Woodrow for President by Peter W. Barnes and Cheryl Shaw Barnes. (companion to the above book)

Obviously I had thought about studying elections some time ago! Can't believe I forgot what I had!!

We did the Woodrow and other "Mice" books back in 2004.

This time around, I am not using anything. We have just been following the election and having discussions. Dd has been especially interested in learning how the polls work and keeping up with those. We will continue the tradition of letting her stay up late while she colors the electoral college map as the results are announced.
