View Full Version : Anyone heard about whey protein being better for weight loss than soy protein?

A friend of mine just lost about 35 pounds and she says she switched from soy protein to whey protein because of the way it affects your thyroid. I haven't heard anything about this and wondered if there is any proof in what she was saying.

Of course, just the fact she lost 35 pounds sounds good to me. Ha.

Here's (http://www.proteinsupplementguide.com/whey-protein-vs-soy-protein/)some info.

But some research says there's not a bit of difference, and some says that soy can increase antioxidant levels.

I pretty much stay away from processed soy, though. I don't like adding phytoestrogens to my diet. And there's some other reason I avoid them, but I can't remember what it is! (How's that for helpful? :-PP)

I checked out several of the articles from the site. Interesting.

We don't use much soy here.

I avoid soy. Although that is pretty hard to do these days!

I personally wouldn't use either. The soy protein is over processed and likely GMO. The whey protein is still dairy and I don't believe very healthy for you. There is another one that I have used- brown rice protein, but again, I prefer to pack my smoothie with dark green leafy veggies like kale, carrot tops, chard, or collards and some fruit (use half a lemon or lime and 2 inches of cucumber to hide the green taste more).

There is a product called Lean Protein that has 5 different types of protein. The local muscle shop :001_smile: guy told me that the more variety the better.
