Aarrgghh.....

As I've been planning my 20th century history/lit study for my 8th grade son, sometime in the last week or so I brought up a post that has a list of books (and other resources?) organized by decade. I didn't save the list or otherwise mark the post and now I can't find it. It was either here or over at the SL forums.

If you know of a list organized by decade and/or are the author of such a list here, could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Well I had a nice post all typed up, but somehow lost it! Here's a thread you might like, even if it's not the one you are looking for:

Thanks for the link to this thread. Not what I was thinking of but helpful! Sorry to have you go to the effort to type up a long post only to have it eaten!

After going back to the SL forums, I *think* it was a thread on videos to use for 20th century studies that I was looking at. Hard to tell, though, and I really shouldn't be doing all this thinking in the middle of the night when I'm too tired to remember later what I did anyway.....

Readings on current events from newspapers and magazines.

I also have a list of separate modern era literature that we read for the year, which was not specifically linked to any particular time period (although it generally flows from earlier to later authors, too).

This is a wonderful list, Regena! Thank you! I've had a good start on my planning but there were simply a number of topics that are missing from my list of additional resources to use beyond my spines. I see a lot of ideas to help me fill in some important gaps.

I have a list of modern era literature started, but plan to save the majority of it for ds's 12th grade year. I'm planning a 4 year rotation for high school, starting with ancients in 9th grade and ending with 20th century again during senior year. However, if you'd like to post your list, I'll save it to my hard drive. Plus, it might be useful to have on this thread for others looking for 20th century resources.

Thanks again for your efforts!

Thanks, Regena. I didn't realize you were refering to literature for the somewhat younger set until I looked back and saw the age of your son.

So far I already have War of the Worlds, Call of the Wild, and Murder on the Orient Express on my list. We'll be attending a production of The Importance of Being Earnest late in the year, so I might have him read that ahead of time.

We did some Rudyard Kipling and some of the Father Brown stories last year. I might read a few more Father Brown stories this year since ds enjoyed them. He still enjoys read aloud time, so I usually try to have one read aloud going all the time. The Good Earth wasn't on my list for this year, but with all the heavier lit I want to have ds do in 12th grade, this year might be a good year for it.

Thanks for the list! More to think about.

Yes, Lori! This is the thread- with your post- that I was looking for! Why it wasn't coming up with my numerous different search parameters I don't know. Like I said, it was the middle of the night when I read this thread the first time, so I was too tired to remember later where I saw the list.
