Right now, these are more of a resource for me as I learn about literature and writing, but I've found the following books helpful:

Writing About Literature by Edgar V. Roberts
Literature: An Introduction to Reading and Writing by Edgar V. Roberts & Henry E. Jacobs

I will probably use them more in our homeschool during the late junior high and high school years. HTH!

I'm planning to use Teaching the Classics (I think that's what it's called) by the IEW folks...

Linda,
Does teaching the Classice actually teach writing a literature analysis? I was thinking that it taught analysis through oral discussion.

Thanks!

have a product called "Teaching the Essay" which is specific to the literary essay. It is a combo of a packet of teaching pages and a cdrom (where you can hear Robin Finley actually teaching a class). I have read mixed reviews on this board in the past, but I found it a helpful resource to use with my oldest ds and plan to use it again.

Well, yes...I was thinking that it would be fairly simple to integrate what it's teaching with the IEW methodology...

Ditto - We are using Teaching the Classics, and it fits nicely into a standard five paragraph essay format... The questions they have for analyzing literature are great, and it is an overall nice tool that works for our family.
