View Full Version : Funny or not? Adults drinking juice from baby bottles . . .

This was a game at a baby shower I attended recently. A few attendees were randomly selected to participate in the game, and the one who was able to finish first won.

What would you think?

I had the feeling I was witnessing some sort of fraternity ritual . . . Others were taking pictures and promising to upload them to MySpace pages.

I think *I* would have felt humiliated. The party was given at a church and the attendees varied from teens to elderly ladies, though these participants were rather young.

Am I just getting to old?

Maybe my showers were just hosted by more conservative ladies . . .

What do you think?

The other night at around three in the morning I was thinking that if I had a baby bottle on my nightstand instead of a glass of water I could drink half asleep without pouring it all over myself.

Ugh. I strongly dislike these types of games. And being videotaped? Double ugh. I'll be a "fuddy duddy" right along with you.

I strongly dislike cheesy shower games. The only one I ever thought was great was one that focused on getting to know the expectant mother. But drinking out of baby bottles, tasting baby food, and wearing a fake diaper complete with "filling" is about as dorky and degrading as I can handle.

The best shower I attended was a dessert shower where we relaxed, chatted, ate dessert, and enjoyed watching the new mom open her presents. Delightful and not missing a game at all.

JMHO :o

Me, too. ::shudder:: I've observed one game where diapers are smeared with chocolate and sniffed for identification. No, thank you.

LOL Remudamom!!! Too funny.

Yeah, my SIL had a shower like that where they actually drank beer out of baby bottles. Not my sort of thing.

When I host we try to do less humiliating games like "name that baby tune" and no internet broadcasting!

Not funny. Nor was the game where all the people got to judge my size by unrolling a length of toilet paper to wrap around my tummy at my first baby's shower. As happy as I was having a baby, I felt like crying with everyone talking about how BIG I was.

Hey, Jess! I didn't recognize you. :) Have you been away for a while or am I just senile? ')

No, not funny. Kind of juvenile, in fact. And the one with beer--ick, I don't even like beer. Tasting baby food was one I did once and it was awful--the food tasted so bad I was determined to never feed it to my kids!

My sisters are giving me a baby shower in a little over a month. We were online looking up some games and I ran across this one and said NO WAY!
I can't imagine anyone wanting to play that game..
Eating baby food isn't fun either.
I wouldn't like to have toilet paper around my mid section either..

I don't mind word scrambles and easy simple things :)

The bottle thing is just bizarre...can't imagine adults participating in that.

I actually didn't mind the TP thing. I thought it was funny to see how far off some people were. I guess it's one of the few times in life where I didn't mind my size.

Krista... if you want my name-that-tune list of songs I'd be happy to give it to you. I burned my own CD off of Itunes and we had lots of fun! I downloaded songs from the 50's up to today with the word "baby" somewhere in the title or song.

I never played this game but I'm a bit disappointed in the consensus of everybody. I think a lot of you could learn that sometimes it's good to let your guard down a bit and do something silly.

It may be worth a good laugh in the right company.

It's games (juvenile humiliation) like that which made me tell everyone in my life that I definitely didn't want a baby shower. Thank goodness they listened to me; I would have had to get nasty...

Krista,

A twist on the tp thing we did at a shower we gave our friendwho was expecting twins. We had everyone guess the number of squares it would take to get all the way around Reagan. When everyone put their guesses in we then put it around her head. Everyone got a good laugh and she wasn't subject to being measured in front of a crowd.

A fun one I saw once was a matching puzzle of matching celebrities with their babies' names. It's amazing what some folks know about celebrities!

There's a fine line between funny and stupid. I strongly dislike these type of games.

IMO, the tp or string around the mamma's belly is okay. Eating baby food and sniffing diapers isn't.

Humph. So now I have to re-do *all* my plans for Dy's shower, Jess!?

Just kidding. :-)

I can remember going to a shower about a year after my miscarriage. I didn't really realize that I was still grieving about it, but the humiliating games and the laughter that ensued made me so sad. I vowed never to go to another shower until after I had a child in my home. :(

It was a very strange. Such a paranoid, humiliating feeling. Like everyone was watching ME. I have no idea why I reacted that way. I've never felt that way again, but I still shy away from baby showers. I bring a nice gift and duck out early on some pretext or another.

I had one baby shower; a ghost shower. I stayed at home and relatives 700 miles away had a shower for me. They sent me the gifts and a video of the party. I fastforwarded through the games part.

I'm with you. So many shower games are stupid nothing more than juvenile humiliation.

Oh, silly is good. Silly is wonderful, actually. And letting your guard down is vital to good mental health, I think. But putting your finger in a paper diaper and having it come out yellow (from mustard) and you win the prize? That's only funny if you're seven.

IMO. :-) I admit that my sense of humor rarely involves any level of schadenfreude. I readily acknowledge being uptight in that regard. Probably the lack of siblings growing up.

We did that in high school - think very small town with nothing better to do! Fun as a teen, but as an adult, no thanks!

I hate, hate, hate games like this, regardless of the context - baby shower, bachelor party, whatever. Heck, I can't even watch most sitcoms because seeing people make fools of themselves makes me so incredibly uncomfortable. I wouldn't have been able to stay in the same room with this kind of thing.

Oh, we did the bottle thing at my baby shower and it was hilarious! There was no question of uploading anything to the Internet back then, or maybe we'd have felt differently. It was juice and not beer, though...the carbonation probably would have been even funnier.

Guess I just have a juvenile sense of humor. :)
