We use the library for history. I have a timeline and we read non-fiction, historical fiction and biographies corresponding to each point on the timeline that I want to cover.

I use WTM plan for history with 6th grader, adding the SOTW as extra reading. But for my 1st and 3rd graders, I use the Core Knowledge Books and TE's from Pearson Learning.

I used SOTW for grammar stage and now we are using HO (modified) for logic stage. I have also just added Galore Park's Junior History for my grammar stage son. Good poll. I just love the new boards.

...and for early American history, we're using Beautiful Feet. The two history courses are not correlated or connected w/each other at all. This is for ds in 5th and dd in 3rd.

I really like the little checkboxes on the polls in this new format! :)

SOTW for 1st - 4th, then Ambleside from 5th on. We'll probably do another 4 year cycle for 9th-12th. We also do lots of other history reading on stuff we're interested in.

This year, I've got one using SOTW 1, one in SOTW 4 and one in AO 7! Lots of good stuff!

My 2nd grader uses SOTW/AG - loves it. My 5th grader is starting to use History Odyssey. I'm probably in the minority here, but I downloaded the 3 week sample of TOG to use before Christmas with the kids....although I enjoyed that there was so much to pick from- it still felt like too much for me (personally) to try to pull together. DS (the 5th grader) loves History Odyssey and it's going well.

This is my first post on the new board! :)

We use Veritas Press. We're currently doing Old Testament/Ancient Egypt (2nd grade). We really like the flow and I don't have to do as much planning as with other classical programs.
Blessings!

Biblioplan with SOTW and AG here. Love it.

Linda (Australia)

For elementary History, Story of the World is our all-time favourite!

For Australian History, we use 'Australia the Wide Brown Land for Me!' (yeh, yeh so I"m biased -seeings how I wrote it) ;)

For the upper levels, we're starting the 'ABCs of Christian Culture' this year; really looking forward to it, as it presents history from a Catholic perspective, and we can incorporate it with the TWISS / IEW writing lessons.

We are using for the 2nd year Mystery of History with Truthquest. This for 5th, 6th, and 7th. Regrettably I will need to find something else for 8th as MOH 4 will not yet be out.
Beginning SOTW and AG with younger one next year.

Hi All,

I just wanted to say this is our first year hsing. We are currently in a history co-op and we use the Biblioplans for Families as a guide.

After much research, I do believe we will be switching to TOG next year!!:p

We use SOTW but really think to do it justice you need to use the Activity Guide. With all the book suggestions and activities and maps and? it is so worth it.

Been using TOG for 3 years and love it. I feel like we finally have found something made for us, before I found it we never did history like we should. It has helped me to overcome my public school education and get over all the political stuff that was taught to me.

We have used STOW and liked it but got bogged down in the medieval period. I tried TOG to fix that but it didn't work for us. I love TOG and want to use it for High School.

Right now, since my children basically hated the whole medieval period and they don't like Columbus or the pilgrims either. We are just sort of exploring history through good books.

We are reading the D'Aulaire biographies, the American Girl book and a few other books about early America that you see on lists. We just finished The Courage of Sarah Noble.:)

We used SOTW for the kids in the grammar years but now with one in Logic Age and one in Rhetoric we've 'moved on'. For the Logic Age kiddo he outlines KFH, does lots and lots of reading, writes topic reports---lots of them, keeps a timeline, and does more reading.

The Rhetoric Age kiddo does history as a Great Book Study as outlined in WTM. It is working quite well.

6th grader: History Odyssey Middle Ages.
2nd grader: SOTW2 with Activity Guide, aligned with HO Middle Ages for my sanity!
Both: LCC recommended reading for some American history, British history, and Rome/Greece.

I write my own plans too. We have completed the first rotation using SOTW as a spine. This year, we are back to the Ancients using a mixture of materials. I have the Guerber histories. We completed Story of the Ancient World (not my favorite) and will start Story of the Greeks next week. I'll add in other books like Augustus Caesar's World and Famous Men of Rome.

Right now, I'm planning to do Omnibus once this rotation is done. I'm sure that there will be other exciting things coming out in the next three years, so I won't commit to it yet.

There are so many great history programs out there! I wish we could just do history and nothing else :p

Even though I've researched this area to death (as many of you I'm sure!) I still haven't really decided to stick with 1 program.

I'm using WP Amer Story 1 this year because I thought it was perfect for both of my kids.

But next yr I plan on going to SOTW 1 and starting that with my 1st grader and my older one will follow along. We'll continue with the series.

But I also really like Biblioplan...I see using that as a supplement with SOTW in some fashion (or the other way around).

Whatever I use I KNOW that my kids will learn way more history than I ever learned in school!
