I picked up Perrine's Literature on Book Mooch and was thumbing through it today. At first glance, I really like this book for literature study. I have the version that includes fiction, poetry and drama. Has anyone used it? If so, what were your thoughts?

I think the Perrine books are fabulous. They are so well written. The kids I've used them with have commented on how easy it is to read the chapters, and how logically Perrine presents the info.
Perrine books are used in lots of AP English classes, but I don't think they are daunting for any high schooler.
The only drawbacks are
1. The Instructor Manual is not really an answer key -- but a dialogue about the issues and literature covered. So it does take a bit more work. I used it in a small co-op class and found it to be a wonderful spine -- and I plan to use it again in a couple of years with my younger ds.
2. You may not like some of the literature/poetry selections. I can't remember any being objectionable -- but I have found with AP materials, publishers and AP teachers try to include "controversial" content.
