I'm looking for a couple of good resources (historical fiction, literature, non-fiction, DVD, etc) about the Russian Revolution to use this year with a boy who will be turning 14 & in 8th grade this fall. I'm looking for logic/dialectic or fairly accessible rhetoric level materials. I'll be saving the heaviest 20th century lit for his 12th grade year.

Any good suggestions?

Don't miss Albert Marrin's Stalin.

If he is a good reader, consider Nicholas & Alexander and/or Dr. Zhivago. Maybe Animal Farm. All of these are films also.

Enjoy!

Yes, I also vote for Marrin!

Thanks for the suggestions! It looks like Marrin's book is a definite, and my library system has it, so I won't need to buy it.

I was thinking about Dr. Zhivago but given our time constraints I don't think I'll assign the book. I think I'll use the DVD.
