Has anyone heard of this or used this? My mom just called from a homeschool convention and said she really liked the looks of it. She wanted to know if anyone has used it. Here is the website:

It is all very pretty and I'm a sucker for anything homestead-y or self-sufficient...but where is the History? Science, other than nature study? Geography, opinions of the outside world, other religions, logic. They say "In an orderly and thorough manner, it (covers) the basic knowledge our children (need), yet (is) flexible enough to meet the diverse needs of each child." It seems they intend it to be the complete curriculum, but it seems more like ATI than WTM, IMO.

I think this is one of of those groups that has no intention of sending children into the outside world. They want to instill them with very narrow and specific ideas, shelter them from anywhere else, and prepare them to take their place in the exclusive community they are creating.

Or did I read it wrong?

I love the crafty stuff. I think the woodworking school is fascinating.

googled the name of the place, Brazos de Dios

http://www.prairiepoint.net/journal/archives/000032.html

It is an intentional agrarian community near Waco. The above link has this quote, "it is a 500-acre working farm devoted to recapturing the heritage of community life in a land-based culture. Families live on the land and incorporate traditional patterns of homestead living into their lives."

There seems to be a Christian religious commonality, too, but I can't find out exactly what it is. They refer to each other as "brother" and "sister." Brazos de Dios means, "in the arms of God."

Lastly, I found a link for an article in the Austin Chronicle that explains more about this community http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/column?oid=oid:74701

Am I being helpful? LOL

I've actually been to the community before. It was a lot of fun. I was just wondering if anyone has used the curriculum. Actually my mom was interested in the math and phonics. I've never heard of anyone using it though and I'm a curriculum junkie LOL. When my mom asked about it. I was like what a curriculum I haven't heard of!!! I'm falling down on the job:lol:

 Well, that's why I had to go investigate. I couldn't stand it to not know about a homeschool curriculum! Now we are informed! LOL

I don't know anything about their curriculum, but I've used their Beginning Sewing and Cheese Making Kits and they're quite good.
