Invitations to Science Inquiry (http://eric.ed.gov/ERICDocs/data/ericdocs2sql/content_storage_01/0000019b/80/1e/27/27.pdf)
I have had this book for 15 years! I was missing some pages and wanted to order a new one. Well, I saw the prices on Amazon and quickly changed my mind.
I found a pdf on eric and was just dumbfounded.
OMG!!!! Free!
This book is the most wonderful resource for physical and general science. I have used it for my 7th, 8th, and 9th grade classrooms. For cub scouts. For co-op classes and with my own children.
Now I can replace my missing pages. Where's a little happy dance smiley? I had to share this awesome book with all of you. It is worth the click.

Shelia,
I really like it. My kids love to just spend hours on their own just playing around and experiment. These are set up so that I can just leave the book out and let them go wherever their interests take them.
Thanks.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I have written many a rant about what constitutes an experiment in which I contrast Dr. Liem and Jan Van Cleave (in Dr Liem's favor, of course). I'm going to go post this on my blog right now. Do you have a website link?

No, this is the direct pdf address from the ERIC website.
www.eric.ed.gov is the main site but that site has never evolved from the early days of the internets.
I just happened to stumble upon it with my mad Google skills.:D
And unlike other books, everything I have ever used from this book....WORKS!
edited to add: Wow, you've actually heard of this book. It's my coveted treasure. Bright orange cover, cheesy graphics, funky font, and everything.

Oh, how COOL!!
Thank you! We rarely do science formally, because I have never been able to stand most science books, programs, curricula, etc. out there. I pretty much hate them all. They don't teach science.
This looks like a fun, doable resource.
We started out last year with the Golden Chemistry Book (something like that) but I chickened out on many of the experiments. Must try again.

thank you for sharing this! Can't wait to look through it!
Thanks so much for sharing your marvelous find. I used parts of this book while I was getting my Masters in Teaching (back in the early 90s) and I always wished I had the whole document. Too cool, I'm looking for it now! I love its simple yet effective methods.

Actually the ERIC site has evolved quite a bit from the early days of the internets. ERIC is a site from the US Department of Education which indexes an incredible number of resources related to education for all ages. As you found, many of the resources, including entire books, are now available in full text. The full text is one of the more recent additions. Thousands of resources are added each year.
