I am embarrassed to ask this question, but if I wasn't so desperate to find a solution, I wouldn't.

Everytime I sit down to read-aloud to my kids, I get uncontrollably sleepy. Before someone thinks I haven't tried to figure this out on my own . . . I get 8 hrs of sleep every night, I have tried reading at different times of the day and get the same result, and I have tried to sit down with something to drink. This is what helps the most, but I am still fighting it the whole time.

When we sit down to work together, it doesn't happen. Just when I am reading. I am wondering if I am not breathing correctly or something. I have tried to concentrate on taking deep breaths while I am reading and it does help some.

Am I the only one this happens to?? Has anyone found anything to work? I am about to start standing up to read which seems ridiculous.

Thanks so much for any advice and just letting me get this off my chest!

(sheepishly) I find I can't stop yawning when I read aloud! When I used to sing and have this happen, someone once mentioned that it did have to do with breathing, but failed to advise how to breathe differently...I would love to hear if someone knows!

so often we've gone to books on CD ;-(

I'm sure it's my breathing. I am a speed reader and I add a lot of inflection to my reading aloud. My kids love it, but man, I need to take a breath at some point. I take shallow breaths to keep up with my reading.

Need to work on slowing down and just breeeeeeeething..

me, too.

I always tried to make sure that I do read alouds at times when I'm at my most awake because otherwise, I'll be sleeping before the chapter is done.
