Do you have one you really like? I have a Boston from Walmart that is rectangular and the hole for the pencil is on the front end. I don't like that I have to hold it with my other hand to keep it from sliding away from me. Aren't there some with the hole on the top?

Two things I cannot homeschool without: my photocopier and my electric pencil sharpener.
I have one like yours. But I think you may find what you are looking for at an office supply store. Check online first.
Otherwise, have the kids do all the sharpening, mine love that.

They do make them with a hole on top but I love the one I have. The pencil goes in from the front but it's a heavy duty one with multiple pencil size holes which is nice since my dd was using the big horse leg pencils last year.
Even if you don't need the different size holes this baby is a work horse. We only have to empty the shavings every month or so and it sharpens wonderfully. The sound changes so you know when you've reached maximum sharpness (is that a real word :))

I have bought an electric pencil sharpener every year we have home schooled. I got fed up and now have an old fashioned, metal hand crank one. Lets see if they can destroy this one ;)

the iPoint pencil sharpener and it has worked well for us. The hole is in the top. :) I got it at OfficeMax.
We also like our regular Panasonic electric sharpener which has the hole in the front. My kids like the iPoint better, though.

I bought one from Walmart...I HATE it. :-/
When you sharpen it, your lead just 'falls' out when you use the pencil....it is so strange. I am going back to a little child's tiny hand held, cheap pencil sharpener....as soon as I get back to Walmart! :D

after 10 kids don't you know not to challenge them like that ;)? Around here that statement would be grounds for starting a new pencil sharpener fund .

Thanks, all! I'll check online. I think I saw one described below with the multiple sized holes earlier today...

We've had this one for about a year and love it. If you check Amazon, some teachers complain about lack of durability, but I think it might get burned out faster with classroom use. For us it was worth every penny, even if I have to replace it in another year.
