View Full Version : Did a virus get into my brain?

Over the last 5 days, 3 of the folks in our family have gotten sick. I'll spare you the ugly symptoms -- suffice it to say that when DH got sick, we thought it was food poisoning. I got sick an hour after DS did, on Monday night. My status suddenly changed from being perfectly well to being sick in the blink of an eye.

Here is what puzzles me.

First, I have slept for 24 of the first 25 hours after I got sick, awakening every 2 hours or so for a few minutes; no meds, no fever. I could not stay awake.

Second, when I did wake up, my mind was super fuzzy. I couldn't think or reason or anything. The *max* I was able to do was leave a message at the school to let them know the kids would not be there today, and to ask DH to come home early from a business trip (he did) and to bring popsicles so DS wouldn't get dehydrated. Those were the result of the 3 coherent thoughts I had.

Third, when I was awake, I spent a lot of time moaning. Moaning! I never do that. When I forced myself to stop, I'd just start up again. True, I was in pain from my injured back (from when I installed a closet system) and every muscle in my body hurt. But, moaning?! I have always been the stoic sort and through a lot worse pain than this.

Meanwhile, DS slept a few extra hours, and read or played computer games. His mind was not fuzzy -- I asked him.

This time around, I have been up for 2 hours and the first thing I noticed upon awakening was that my mind isn't fuzzy any more.

So did the virus go to my brain? This really bothers me as it has never happened to me before.

Thanks!
RC

Wow, I don't know but it sounds scary. I wouldn't mind the sleeping part but the fuzzy mind would be a little disconserting. I'm glad that your husband was able to get home quickly for you.
