My first question: Is General Science really necessary?
Can I skip General Science and go right into Physical Science followed by biology, chemistry, etc.?
Dd grade 7 really wants to do Swimming Creatures of the 5th day and Botany this year. Can I take these directly into the recommended 8th grade Physical Science?
Thanks!!!

No, General Science isn't really necessary. And yes, you can skip it and go right into Physical Science. When we started w/ Apologia many yrs ago, ds began with Physical as General wasn't published yet. Worked fine.
If your dd wants to do Swimming Creatures & Botany this yr, and do Physical Science in 8th, it sounds good to me.
The sequence isn't written in concrete, you know? ;)

No, I would say General isn't necessary. . .
However, you could easily start Gen in 8th and go through Physics in 12. (If you wanted to do Gen Sci.)

Absolutely not.

Yes. In fact, my oldest did half of General Science, did *delight directed* science projects in 7th and started his formal science sequence in 8th with Apologia Biology. He went on to Apologia Chemistry in 9th and AP Biology last year.

Yes. My dd did Apologia Zoo II followed by half of General Science and went into Physical Science in 8th beautifully.
Keep in mind that the key to higher level science is not having done lots of formal, structured lower level science. The keys are math skills and study skills. Use the 7th and 8th grade years to teach outlining and notetaking from a text and to moving forward in math and your child should be ready for biology in 9th.
